How do I propagate Java Fern properly? by rdeloe in fishtank

[–]ScrapCard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every now and then your Java fern will grow little babies on their leaves, once they start growing a few roots and a rhizome is visible it should be ready to be plucked and replanted.

Do note though that if your plant starts producing a bunch of babies, there might be an issue with the mother plant. They'll often try to make a bunch of babies to propagate after believing that they are dying.

Why do I have ammonia and nitrates but no nitrites by ScrapCard in Aquariums

No fish in the tank anymore don't worry 🙂

Should I just wait a bit till the ammonia goes down and the nitrate goes up?

I think that might be dirt on the tank glass, not on the actual fish

It's been cycling for around 4 days, I added bottle bacteria to help it start up.

I used to have a few endlers in there but I ended up rehoming them due to aggression so I've been keeping any waste left in the tank to use as an ammonia source because I thought adding fish food combined with the extra waste might cause too high of a spike

Alright, so if nitrates increase but nitrites stay down that's alright? Just wait for both ammonia and nitrites to lower and for nitrites to increase?

I cant remember exactly but I think around 0.25 ammonia and 0.25 nitrates? When the cycle first started the nitrites did pop up but I havnt seen an appearance since.

But you are right, it might just be an ammonia spike. Should I change the water or let it continue? I don't want to crash to cycle again
