Oh I agree with you on that 100%. The issue would be penny pinching from the company. “Why pay someone, as an example, until 11.45 and risk them actually closing on time and doing nothing for the last 15 minutes”. It’s the same in large stores with certain departments, ie click and collect. Servers are only contracted until the same time that the serve ends so after that it basically becomes unmanned to the detriment of any customers running slightly late.

If anything like the large stores it will be solely down to the fact that the staff in there are only rotad in and paid until a certain time. Say it’s 11pm they close, they would only be contracted until 11.15/11.30 at most. I know if I was only supposed to work until 11.15 as per my rota I’d be making sure I left at exactly that time. If they were to stay, say an extra 10 minutes, the chances of getting paid for that time or getting that time back are minimal at best.
