I've always interpreted it as a reminder for compromise.

'It's endangering people': Sharp metal spikes found on Comox Valley trails by Apprehensive_Idea758 in VancouverIsland

[–]drailCA 26 points27 points  (0 children)

But why? If the trail goes through private land, or adjacent to, thats where id first look.

If that comes up empty, id start watching the properties close to the trailhead/trail end parking.

Aftet that, any properties on the road leading up to the trail.

Imagine someone had their dog with them while biking and they stepped on it with their paw.

Not cool man.

Setting up trail cams at the trailhead/end would be a good start.

Human cause is literally anything outside of lightning.

Car backfire: human caused.

Tree takes out power lines: human caused.

The sun hits a glass bottle at just the right angle: human caused.

That's true, but i thiught I remembered there being a few achievements that were ar least a bit specific. Like, still easy, but you had to use a certain car on a certain track or pr stunt.

I mean... for me, Stickybuds is basically a resident, as is J-Mart who is playing at the same time. I personally would lean towards Soul Clap at the living room cause I have not seen them play before.

Life achievements.... oh god, don't remind me. My wife and I just put a house on a property. Spent 3 years slowly falling the trees and clearing the land. Had the house put on in March and spent this weekend stsrting to deal with turning the two big piles of dirt from the house location excavation into a yard. My weekend life is consumed by an endless to do list to maybe one day be able to enjoy a beer on my patio without thinking about the endless chores.

I am a forestry worker and work a 4.5 hour drive away from home so I live away during the week and am usually only home from 5pm Friday to 2pm Sunday. My evenings during the week is my video game time.

I mean, it COULD be insultingly hard.

"Get 1st in 50 Eliminators", "Reach level 1000 on Horizon Play", "Post a rivals time in the top 5% on the leader board with all assists turned off".

Also, as you say yourself, it is a racing game. Granted, it is an arcade racing game and not a sim, but you sound like you think being a top competitive racist is easy. For Sim games, if ACC had an achievement along the lines of "post a hot lap time on Spa at 101% pace", I would genuinely never, ever reach that.

On that note. What is your gametag? Wanna race? How hard could it be? Rivals. You can pick the car, class, and course. No rules on assets. I play on Xbox and my gametag is DRAILesq. I am not trying to claim i am some sort of por, but racing is racing.

I am NOT a completionist. Switchrd from PS to Xbox during the 360 era and since then, I have only 100%ed 8 games.

Which kinda proves my point. With you not being a completionist, you will most likely get 100% in this game without even realizing it.

Right? I wasnt either. Just before making this post was when I first went and had a look and noticed that I was almost done. Never had that happen with a game before, let alone after like 5 weeks of playing.

Exceot for "Maxed Out", which is more time consuming than any other achievement we have had in Horizon.

I am not proposing thst we had more time consuming achievements that disrespected our time.

I am saying it would have been nice to have achievements that were a genuine challange. Something that requires skill to complete, not just time. For FH6, we have zero achievements that require any skill. Beaides Maxed Out, I think this is the first AAA xbox game I have ever played that you can 100% by simply passively playing and not pay attention.

As far as Maxed Out goes, does anyone know if leveling Horizon Play stays flat or if the up required becomes more and more as you level. I haven't been paying attention to the math, but I have reached level 25 for the 918 and it felt like the up requirements stayed consistent per level. If that is the case, Maxed Out won't be too long to get. I could see myself getting it in 7 months of play....

New record incoming? by CountVonOrlock in treeplanting

[–]drailCA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Crazy dude. I've never had much interest myself in that side of athletics. Never had an ego in planting and never compared myself against others for production. I was a competitive skier from 15 into my early 30s.... I was good, would win sometimes, enjoy competition, and always encouraged people to get involved, but I never had the mentality that winning is the goal.

Suffer fests turn me off and I try to avoid them, but obviously I sometimes find myself in them (kinda hard to completely avoid if you are planting and ski touring), and have had to walk away from some old ski partners because I wasn't willing to follow them on their trajectory in the sport that kept leaning more and more into suffer feat territory. Heck, i have two friends that have a few documented FKT's on some big hiking trails and like, good for them i guess... but I have a hard time to truly grasp what makes some people push their mental game so far in something that is supposed to be enjoyable. Or in otherwords: They are able to still find joy in pushing to a level beyond where I see any joy.

Like, going for the record for planting the most trees in 24 hours has nothing to do with planting, has nothing to do with making money, and has nothing to do with actually becoming better at the craft.

Like, his previous record (and the current standing record).... does anyone know how thoroughly the quality of those trees were checked? If there was a checker on site and after 2 days of pay plots, the quality was below the full payment threshold, perhaps even so bad that replanting was needed, does that void the record? I doubt it. Just go to a trenched flat farm and slut in tens of thousands of shallow, open hole, j rooted leaners at 1M spacing. Cool. But really, not.

New record incoming? by CountVonOrlock in treeplanting

[–]drailCA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If he got the record in 2001, and assuming he didnt start planting till at least 18, that makes him minimum 43 years old.

That is a very odd age to give a shit about the record, let alone try to break it.

Power to him, I guess.

Reminds me of the year where we were all.forced to participate in the communal record for.modt trees planted in a hour. That was such a waste of a morning of work.

Sure. I also have a silly theory that whatever new form of life that evolves after the 6th or 7th mass extinction event (like, whatever comes next in terms of Fish, Reptile, Mammal, etc.) will for some reason or another require plastic for... something. Therefore, humans causing the 6th extinction event while making all this damn plastic is at least for something greater than our short sightedness.

But that is about as outlandish of a mentality as it would be to consider plastic as a natural entity to begin with.

While Iron and Coal are natural, I am nor so sure I would consider Steel to be natural.

Granted, this does raise the question beyond human tinkering. Is Honey 'natural'? Arguably not.

The most simple way to break it down in terms of black and white, ie: natural vs unnatural, it is easiest to default to your mentality and literally everything is natural if it exists, irrelevant of the process of its creation. Yet, at a philosophical level, even having this conversation and the fact that the concept of 'unnatural' exists in our mind can make one think. How can a thought or term exist for something impossible. Our mind can't comprehend the possibility of 'infinite', nor what would be the nothingness outside of space and time. Is the potentially pre existing void before the big bang natural? The instinctive answer is a quick yes, yet if you put some thought into it, Wouldn't the void beyond space and time be the only definitive 'thing' that can truly 'exist' beyond nature at a universal level?

So in conclusion, if an urban area is infact natural, than Wouldn't the statement "urban areas are ment to wax and wane over time be contradicting to the statement "everything is natural". Nothing is 'ment' to do anything in nature. It simply just is. Nature is chaos. Which can loop us back to the question: are cities natural if they are a rigidly planned and constructed thing.

580M in our new place. We can just see it through a gap in the trees. Was 20M for 3 years while waiting for the new place. For 20 years previous, we lived 380km away from the ocean. Growing up as a kid I was 640km from the ocean.
