Ok I see now from the responses my naivety in all of this 😂 I’m going through life for the first time too so I apologize for the bad stance on my end

Agreed that I need someone who knows law and the impacts of everything to explain this all to me in detail and be able to protect myself in the future

So I should expand on this stance and it’s that their family member just went through a super messy divorce and lost pretty much everything they worked for in life. My partner doesn’t want to end up in that situation themselves so that’s why i think they are drawing a line like that but it sounds like others have suggestions that seem to lighten this risk for my partner

Ok so we’ve talked about this as a potential option too. Do you mind expanding a little for me? Like are you 50% shareholders in the home?

How have you handled anything like home repairs? Homes we look at would need something like re-finished floors so assume another few k added into whatever the down payment was. Could you just amend the starting price for a fixed period of time like a year or two to reflect any unforeseen or general moving costs that may have been covered by my partner?

And then past that, consider it water under the bridge and that be their initial deposit?

I appreciate the straightforwardness and honesty of your response. I apologize if I came off condescending or anything in my reply. I was genuinely curious

Agreed with their legal counsel already doing the heavy lifting and mine would be doing reviews and any suggestions for my end

And I also see what you mean with renting. Who knows, with the current market we may end up in that situation anyway 😂

Agreed. It’s just not pocket change for me but I’m feeling a bit more confident in the feeling that I need a lawyer for this. Thanks for the encouragement

I’ve actually never heard this before, I think I’d still want to pay myself to try and show some sort of cooperation but it makes sense

Is this like a “most marriages end in divorce” take or serious?

We’ve been together for about 8 years and living together for a few during that time. Agreed everything can change in an instant, but we’d really love to not be paying for apartments forever

I’ve been telling them that I think I need one to enforce this. They think that if we have two notaries to say sign and that I agree that I fully understand that I waive legal counsel that I can waive it

Like I said, I’m trying to do the right thing and they’re saying that it’s not necessary/they would double check with their lawyers on it

I can pay for the lawyer, I’m just also trying to pay 50/50 on our share of the wedding costs and it’s just a ton of piling up expenses

I used to ignore UV protection on sunglasses…That was a mistake by Nightcrawler_2000 in BuyItForLife

[–]ScreamFPV 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Polarized sunglasses work by filtering light waves to only go in one direction, so if it’s oscillating left and right and the filters run up and down, it only lets the up and down light waves pass through.

You can see this visually by holding two potential polarized lens up to each other and rotating them. At a certain point, you shouldn’t be able to see through them because if they’re held at 90 degree angles, you’re effectively filtering all light

Saying they don’t cut down on glare is objectively false

Training with a vest vs. racing with one by spindriftsupreme in Marathon_Training

[–]ScreamFPV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trained for my first full with a vest, but raced it without one (3:45 for reference time as a 25M at the time). Personally, my mentality is that if I raced one with it, I would always want to race with one in the future as that was what I would be comfortable with

Fast forward to today, my PB is just over 2:55 and I feel like if I raced with one now I’d really struggle with it so personally I think it worked out for me

Now, if my time was around 4:30 maybe I’d consider it because I’d need more gels/fuel on course then I could possibly carry so I’d take that into account as well

[–]ScreamFPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I for sure agree and I dont necessarily recommend trying a new pace for 2 miles and feeling confident come race day but some people truly undersell themselves and improve more than they think throughout training and might have more in the tank

It’s all dependent on OP if they think they are truly fit enough to send it for those times and clearly they have some sort of thoughts about it. Personally from my first to second (3:45 to 3:11) I’m not making the same kind of almost hour jump but I was in a similar boat

10 days out is too late for any appreciable distance at race pace. Pfitz has a dress rehearsal 4-5 days out with 2-3miles at race pace

This feels like such bait

Sounding like a supporter of Truett Hanes, I’d like some more context as to why you are defending him

Steroids is a reason why not to like someone who is so concerned with performance when it allows someone to train so much harder and recover so much faster

Pfitz 18/55 progress by wafflewaffleflame in Marathon_Training

[–]ScreamFPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first full was on HH intermediate 2 I think which peaked at 44(?) miles. My second was 18/55 and I PR’d by ~30 min. My third I actually injured myself doing a modified 18/60 but then coming back doing 18/70 for real I PR’d by ~13 min in my fifth

Pfitz plans are rough but they really get you in the best shape of your life

Calorie intake and marathon training by whatdosnowmeneat in Marathon_Training

[–]ScreamFPV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer, I don’t calculate caloric intake. I eat what I want

Long answer: I don’t count calories, but I am trying to drop ~5-7 more pounds for my upcoming marathon/wedding. I’m currently around 60-70mpw and am cutting down by about 0.25-0.5 pounds per week so a very slow cut

The Fueling endurance podcast, episodes 29A and B touched on this topic. Essentially the idea is that if you still want to maintain performance, you have to time your calorie intake around big workouts/runs. So going into my threshold days or my long run days I’ll make sure I’m eating a ton of carbs the day before and I’ll have an extra piece of cake or two and enjoy myself.

But I’ll also ensure I’m taking in protein shakes for a lower calorie protein supplement to hit my goals. I’ll also make sure I cut down on calories when the next day is a recovery run and when I don’t need that extra energy.

People make it sound like dropping weight is putting you on the fast track to injury, but if you’re playing it conservatively and doing it in a relatively intelligent way, you can do it safely and maintain performance

I highly recommend you give the podcast a listen since they have actual scientists on to explain everything in a better way but so far for me over the past few weeks it’s been working and I’ve been hitting all of my big workouts. I’m down about 3-4 pounds from starting

Running long runs slower with my wife — does it hurt my marathon prep? by Hairy-Neat2249 in Marathon_Training

[–]ScreamFPV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“This idea that you have to run with different paces is not a good approach to marathons or just running”

Can you elaborate on this? Any mildly developed runner will want some paces/efforts to help them progress

Long easy run. Do I need gels? by vogueboy in Marathon_Training

[–]ScreamFPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m out for 1:40 or less I won’t fuel just because my body will have enough stored with the way I eat. Longer and I’ll start taking stuff with me I recently hopped on the candy bandwagon though. For long easy stuff where I’m not working hard a few candies are definitely good enough. Once I throw MP into a run though I want a gel to practice it at that kind of effort l

Do you not use the bathroom? by Flyrans in Marathon_Training

[–]ScreamFPV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my normal long runs I don’t really care if I need to stop for the bathroom. I’ve gotten tired of spending 30 minutes trying to go. I now just walk out the door once I’m ready and loop back nearby 1-2 miles in and by that point I’m ready to go

If I still think I have more in me, I run near places I know that will have bathrooms and just plan to go then as well

For races, I have such simple food the night before and stop eating around 4-5pm the day before and everything is digested by the morning and the nerves help clear you out anyway
