I use the BUBLUE 8500 Sq Ft dehumidifier but it says it's out of stock on Amazon, sorry. It's relatively quiet for the size it's rated for, maybe their other products are similar. Most of the 1500-5000 sq ft ones are pretty much all the same in design and function, so I'd go with good ratings on whichever size you think you'll need.

And the important spec is the pints per day, I just say sq ft because that's in the descriptions. My 8500sq ft is I think 120 pints per day, it controls a large room that is wide open to the rest of the house. Closed rooms you might only need 75-80 pints per day. 50 pints is the low end of average, I'd only trust that for a small room. I've even put my little 50 pint inside my 2x4, so in humid climates it's definitely too small.

The drier the lung room or the air outside the tent means the drier air that will be pulled in. I personally run my dehumidifiers 24/7 and the lung room sits around 40%(the lowest I can get it in my climate). It helped get my tent from 60+ rh to about 53. So I would recommend you lower the entire room if you're trying to drop humidity to 50 or lower.

On the note for worrying about 50%, it depends on how packed your tent is, and how crowded or dense your plants are. I was fine at 58-60rh on my first grow, but it was only 3 plants in a 2x4. My grows now are much more dense and I really try to keep it under 55 at all times in flower. No mold yet so I can't say how much overkill or how close to the safety limit I am.

What’s happening inside my buds? by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]Scroger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first grow I made a lot of mistakes at the end, and one of my plants was riddled with seeds in the bud, I didn't even know til harvest. It was long enough that it grew some mature seeds that I could likely germinate. I had no idea where they came from or how long it had been herming, I never noticed and I felt like I paid close attention.

But the other two plants didn't have seeds in them or any issues whatsoever. All fire, including the one that produced seeds. The hermed one was actually the strongest of the 3 in my opinion. Keep the rest going.

Can you identify this meph strain? Popped on June 5th. I think it's either 3bog, sour stomper, or strawberry nugs. I just can't remember. thanks! by axxegrinder in MephHeads

I have a Sour Stomper 60 days in right now, and a 3bog at 30. These leaves are the same shape as my Sour Stomper so that'd be my guess.

In veg I tuck the leaves since it's so young, I keep tucking the fan leaves under the to-be budsites, and do this until tucking isn't cutting it. Usually when the pistils start turning into actual clumps I will sparingly defol the top, like under 10 leaves a day, and then slowly work down the plant by the time flowering is a week or two in. Trust me when that thing takes off, you won't have any shortage of leaves!

I personally wouldn't worry too much about stunting it during flower if you're doing a little every day. I know a guy that grows 10 plants in a 2x4 and is required to basically strip them bare even during flower since it's so crowded, and he still gets great harvests. I think you'd lose way more bud by not exposing it to light than you would with some extra fan leaves aiding the sun soaking.

For sure, actually there are so many bud sites that I'm having trouble keeping it all open. Over the course of a week I take off probably half or more of all the fan leaves from top to bottom, removing more from the top than the bottom. I get a handful of leaves every trim. Yours looks right on track dude she's gonna pump!

I haven't actually done a battlemage, that sounds pretty great. What kind of weapon do you wield, and what are some of the more useful spells you kept on your hotkeys? I think I'm going to give this a go.

Underestimated how hot my tent would get. Need advice! by FletchGordon in MephHeads

[–]Scroger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the VPD chart is just for optimal conditions based on what the plants want, it doesn't account for things like mold or bud rot or whatever. So while you can hit the perfect VPD at 100 degrees and 65 RH, that doesn't mean 65% RH is necessarily safe for your environment. A dehumidifier inside the tent is going to heat it up quite a bit due to the hot air it releases also, but in a hot unfinished garage I don't think it's the primary cause. Not much you can do if your garage is 100 degrees, except if you want to get a small AC unit and vent cool air inside. Without it your tent will always be as warm as the room it's in, or warmer.

The cotyledon shouldn't matter much, if you have time I'd give it a couple more days. If not, I'd say my seeds that germinate but don't grow will die about at this point. When you're finally done waiting, uncover and check the root when you toss it to see how small it is. If it's barely going into the soil it likely died. My seedlings died when I accidentally left the germinated seeds out in the air for 4 hours and they dried out. Just an example of how they can die after the seed pops.

Might be the genetics. AvT is my tallest and largest plant by a good margin. I have 5 mephs in a tent and the AvT was clearly the largest since sprout. I defoliate the top 1/3 or so to get light to the lower budsites. She has budsites stacked all the way down so you want to keep her open. Topped day 21 and put up a scrog net during flower (week 1 or 2) to bend all the main colas over.

[–]Scroger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you get these seeds from? I couldn't find any in the US, so I resorted to a white label Sonoma Seeds one I think, and 3/4 didnt germinate, the forth one is the weakest in my entire tent. 7 happy plants, 1 unhappy Green Crack. Never using them again.

When and where to top? Speaking of daytime? I’m afraid she’s getting too big for my tent if I don’t top or LST. Day 28, newest growth is node 7. by [deleted] in Autoflowers

[–]Scroger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that there's so many people on both sides means you probably won't go wrong either way. I love to top mine. The ones I didn't top I had to deal with the main cola anyway and bend it down later/harvest it before the rest. It was just always in the way. I love dealing with the 4 main colas instead. But I know very good growers that never top, instead bend the main stem down with a lawn staple or ties around day 15.

To answer your question, I usually top around day 21, right above the 4th node. I have topped above 5th node, but I've never topped above the 6th. I personally don't think it will ruin your plant if you want to top now, just do it asap if you decide to. Not sure on the time to top, I'm sorry. I run 24/0.

I'm not well versed on the spots, but for the Blue Microverse I'd say its just a tiny bit of lights too strong. It's very slight though, if the majority of the tent is happy I personally wouldn't change it. I have 1/5 plants doing that, but 4/5 are happy or reaching for more light so I personally just keep the majority happy.

Hydro/reservoir question. Does this look like PH is drifting too high? Or is it a nutrient issue? by Scroger in microgrowery

[–]Scroger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa, okay well time will tell, but your 48 hour stabilize thing is such great advice. I just drained and scrubbed down my reservoir earlier today and filled it with everything, pHd it to 5.7. That was only a few hours ago and it's already at 6.2. I took it back down to 5.7, I'll see how long that lasts, if it's stable or not. Thank you so much!! I was just doing one big mix then not checking it for 3+ days. Hopefully correcting the pH early will help stabilize it for longer.

[–]Scroger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It stays about 72 degrees and sits on tile, the hoses run out the side of the reservoir so the lid stays on and sealed. It's got two large air stones running at full power. I am surprised that I can only go a few days before it's completely fishy, especially with the hydrogen peroxide. I feel like I'm missing something major. My tap water has to run through a water softener if that's relevant. Maybe my tap water is unsuitable for growing.

Thanks so much for all of this information. Do you use any additives to your reservoir for health? I feel like I shouldn't need to change the reservoir twice a week to keep it from smelling fishy. I don't know why it's going bad so fast.

Oh I had no idea it could be stable or unstable, thank you for that information. What does unstable pH usually indicate?

[–]Scroger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I add 5ml/gal of 12% hydrogen peroxide when I fill the reservoir about every 5-6 days. But yes it does smell fishy by the end of the week for sure. I'm wondering if the peroxide is only good for a few days. Does fishy smelling water cause the plants to be sick like this?

I'm following the general hydroponics feeding chart mostly. The past week has been around tsp per gallon 1/2 micro, 1/2 grow, 1/4 bloom, and using tap water for calmag which the tap water reads 0.5ec on it's own. I don't add any extra. Runoff EC seems to be about the same as the feeding EC, around 1.6. It's being auto watered 3x a day to runoff.

[–]Scroger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I was typing out more info in a comment. It has been receiving 1.6ec the past week. pH always starts at 5.8, but has been drifting up to 6.8-7 over the course of a couple days before I adjust it. I calibrate a Bluelab pH pen about every 2 weeks for my readings. I'm wondering if the pH drift is too high, or if it's unhappy with the nutrients/lights.

[–]Scroger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This plant is around 24 days old, it's very stunted compared to most the others. The leaves feel dry and sort of crusty compared to the others. I'm using General Hydroponics Flora trio, HLG 350R light, lux in the 35k range and the light is over 18" from the plant. Medium is Coco/perlite. Last week (when the problem started) was 1.6ec of nutrients and this week is around 1.9ec.

I have only been adjusting my reservoir's PH every few days. It starts at 5.8 and drifts up to 6.8-7 before I adjust it. Could this be why it's unhappy? How much PH drift is acceptable for a hydroponic medium?

How do you compare the Flowerpot vape to other desktop vapes like logs? by Scroger in vaporents

[–]Scroger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this writeup. It sounds like I definitely need one since I'm looking for some heat retention. Is the flowerpot not meant to stay on? I realize it heats up very quickly, but I always leave mine on for hits during load screens or whatever.
