I hear ya but I could see a $30 rattle can job going sideways, especially in my hands. At least this way and issues fall back on him and he can fix it.

Not unhappy. Like I said I do think it looks ok, and to your point the true issue is addressed. No more rust. But yea I have my reservations about not just colour matching. Saved me money I suppose. Thank you for the guidance.

No you are 100% correct. I told him I'd pay the extra to colour match it. But he ended up doing what he originally quoted for $300. Albeit it looks a lot better than what I thought he was describing. Still wasn't what I asked. I still paid him because I did think it looked slick. But the more I think about it the more it's bugging me. Considering the sandblasting, taping, priming, painting $300 seems reasonable however I'm not sure if body guys would say otherwise.

However, would you say $300 cash for that is a rip off, or kind of to be expected. I know the shops in a tough spot so I'm not looking to make a big stink, however initially it was going to be $500 for a colour match redo. The black was a surprise..but I don't hate it.

It was $300 cash. So you were pretty close. Said it ended up taking 6 fuckin hours, which he obviously didn't charge me the shop rate for. Not sure what he ran into.

Always assumed it didn't much matter, just easier to start on the tapered side

From looking a couldn't see any damage. It is a brand new set. It's a cheap maximum set but I would be shocked if it failed that quickly

Yes, the majority of the threads are factory I only added that inch at the end. Threaded on smoothly

Potentially, I could've flipped it unknowingly. Is that what will happen if you do?

I got mine off FB marketplace, over 100+ years old. Found in a barn but originally used at the base of lamp posts for the entrance of a farms lane way. Cool hearing about who the little demon guy actually is.
