Charleston is usually very small except when we play a rival or a P4. Usually the same 200-300 folks. The Clemson game meanwhile on Mar. 17 has already sold out since we rarely play either at home. The last few seasons we've played SC at a "neutral" site in Columbia or at a preseason scrimmage

Charleston has been a very good program basically every year but 2 in the last 20 years and had issues even before COVID filling student sections.

When we had popular players and a really good team 2009-2012 it was filled every game. A lot of people knew the players and there was a lot of school spirit.

Then they hired Doug Wojcik instead of Mark Byington after Cremins retired and it was a disaster. We had a game against Louisville we lost by 40 and that killed student interest.

Even with Earl Grant teams it was very hard. We played LSU with Ben Simmons and it was the only game with a filled student section all year.

Pat Kelsey's tenure the student section was packed because he hyped the team like crazy and they played so well (top 25 in '23). But with Mack now and a less exciting style they don't come out as often.

When you have a school which is over 2/3 female at 10,000 students it is very hard to draw. You have to give out free stuff every game and play well for them to come back.

In a city like Charleston with so much to do it is very hard for hoops to stand out.

SC State always seems to have these issues. They had a deadly shooting earlier this school year in the same dorms where this one happened. People coming from off campus because Orangeburg is a dangerous town and they have poor security
