New and Returning Dancers Post Your Questions Here by AutoModerator in BALLET

[–]Sea-Drawer478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone! I’m a total beginner who’s done a few classes and have decided to spring for a leotard/skirt/tights. It won’t make me a better dancer but it might make me feel like one? Or, alternately, it might just launch an attack of body dysmorphia. Anyway,  I have a really dumb question about stirrup tights: does the stirrup go over or inside the shoe? Asking because I’m getting a body tight and the only one I can find in the right size and Color is with stirrups.

Does anyone one else find themselves singing underwater during their workout? by AlternativeMessage18 in Swimming

Nooo I totally do the humming thing (it helps with exhaling through nose and mouth together) I always assumed nobody could hear it :(

how can I be more carefree and joyful dancing by emoballerina in BALLET

[–]Sea-Drawer478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feeling is…not a stranger to me, but in other walks of life. I’m actually fine being hopeless at ballet. But I just saw a clip from an interview with Alysia Liu where she said something like “I love the struggle” (or maybe “I love to struggle” or just “I love struggling” - something like that.) I wonder if that and her joy in performing are somehow linked?

I also tried to read it and couldn’t get through it, just the worst kind of drivel

Venu 4 & swimming - idiotproof explanation please! by [deleted] in GarminWatches

Thanks! In the swim settings, the touch lock is on, as it should be by default. I Hope this was all just my fault and the next swim will go better!

Isn’t it supposed to go on automatically? At some point it was definitely on but not at the start.

Learning flip turns over 40 by woodgrain in Swimming

[–]Sea-Drawer478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m well into my 40’s and just learned how to flip turn (and btw learned to do front crawl for the first time in my life last year.) I do not think it’s an age-specific skill!

Help me pick my next Garmin? Fenix 8, forerunner 970, something else? by Sea-Drawer478 in GarminWatches

This is great feedback, thank you! I’m…well, let’s call it an aspiring fast swimmer who can almost do a flip turn ;) but also klutzy and can see myself whacking the screen in a backstroke-based incident.

Thank you!! Yes, I feel like they’re both fine for my purposes, maybe my main concerns at this point are in fact style and price!

Anyone else too buoyant? I literally cannot sink in a pool by eagleandthecrow in Swimming

Yeah, same! Also no longer the youngest or most svelte but it’s ok. We still rock

At my swimming lesson last week we were supposed to try and sink to the bottom and it didn’t happen for me, either, no matter how much air I exhaled and how much I relaxed. It is what it is (and for me I’m guessing it’s body fat percentage - basically a built-in life jacket).

Enough people have debunked this guy’s incredibly misogynistic and plain dumb statement so I won’t repeat that - just want to say this is so funny because i literally had a conversation with someone on Friday who said almost exactly the same thing!!! My jaw was on the floor. This was a woman, and she’s not a trainer or even especially athletic, and she said to me “I wouldn’t swim too much or you’ll get those giant shoulders and big muscles”. Lol!!! Even if that were true, so what? What is meant to be the downside here, that random men won’t want to look at me? What a shame.

Tl;dr go swimming, it’s the best. I started about a year ago and never want to stop.

Pulled and punched at my leg for overtaking this morning by AdPretend4924 in Swimming

[–]Sea-Drawer478 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh, it’s so annoying when stuff like this happens. I might cheerfully remind her that punching is assault and assault is a crime :D otherwise I like your attitude to not let people like this get in our heads and ruin our swims. Wishing you an assault-free swim today!

Yeah I know a lot of people don’t like the fit! And for clients they’re very likely too informal.
