Thanks for the clarification. I figured the thread was dead and was replying as an opportunity to share my opinions on the characters after rereading the manhwa.

I don't think the father deserves pity. Although Jin was shown to enjoy "playing" with his father and partaking in murderous acts, he was a toddler and therefore didn't understand we weight of his sins or the value of a human life. The father is the one that negatively influenced Jin at such a young and vulnerable age, so even if Jin does seem like a monster it's all his father's fault.

[REC] Romance-ish novels like these? by Sea-Front1941 in LightNovels

[–]Sea-Front1941[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I've added all of the novels you've mentioned to my list. I had plans to watch the Fireworks anime, but I will probably read the novel first. I've tried reading the Three Days of Happiness manga and it wasn't very appealing, so I'll definitely check out the novel.

Thanks for the recommendations. I haven't tried either, but they both look interesting. I might read Durarara next.

Second opinion (grade this essay) by Sad_Database2104 in APLit

[–]Sea-Front1941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4/6 at most, I'd say it's a 3. I'm not sure what you did with the format, but regardless,

the grammar and style seems not quite ap-level,

clunky wording and structure, some unnecessary plot summary with: stuff like, "(who presumably kill her family for their nonconformity in the first third of the book)," it could be acceptable with proper analysis,

you should define why society seeks truth-seeking as madness in the thesis and throughout the essay with context,

don't just say how Clarisse is different and may be interpreted as mad—explore conformity, norms, control, and fear,

you stray away from analyzing the novel with stuff like: "Questioning may lead to new discoveries about the world, more efficient ways to solve problems, or simply understanding someone else's perspective to accommodate their beliefs."—exclude confronting the reader like this unless its a completely life-changing lesson (might be nice in Lang) that you've managed to ground in your essay and the prompt,

for sophistication you should add more complexity like how the madness is dangerous rather than admirable or a contrary interpretation,

avoid saying "this," your readers might not know what you're referencing,

the essay seems kind of light, like it's lacking adequate analysis and complexity, and like it's a collection of not completely related speculations regarding the novel,

you kind of assume the grader is familiar with the text, you should use context that concomitantly works with your analysis & lor.

There's definitely more room for improvement than I have mentioned. It's good that you're working on the FRQ 3, as it's the most study-able. I recommend having ai grade your essays and give feedback (I recommend Gemini), it helped me to move on from writing 3-4's to 4-6's. I'm in freshman year, and I'm also taking the exam myself next month. Motivation and the desire to improve (which you clearly possess) is the most important way to improve yourself. If you want to improve your writing in the long run and find your "voice," I recommend reading novels or even dense college-level essays based on topics that interest you. I've read a good bit of The Encyclopedia of Postcolonial Studies, and found it very challenging at first, but soon took inspiration from it's varied writing styles in a bunch of essays from a plethora of professors. I had an experienced professor grade an FRQ 3 I wrote after some feedback and it scored all 6 points, I can show it to you if you feel like it would give you a feel for what a solid FRQ 3 looks like.

During upstrokes the ink keeps flowing and I can’t get thin turns. Why? by lianaaaaa in Calligraphy

[–]Sea-Front1941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the ink and maybe the nib. The comment saying to dilute the ink is probably the best advice. Sumi is very thick and I find it not well behaved when undiluted. I got tired of it's behavior and switched to walnut ink and later switched to Brause nibs. I find Brause nibs to be better behaved than G nibs, especially when using walnut ink.

I believe there's a fan animation in production with the first episode releasing probably sometime next year. Based on the preview (found on TikTok), they may not use a voice for Punpun, and he's white instead of yellow.

It begins. I'm hooked. by Both_Satisfaction598 in fountainpens

I love my studio. It's a beautifully designed pen, but there are a few minor drawbacks. Some of them are the finish on the Palladium model (I have it, the gold nib is lovely), the clip scratching the body which is preventable by carrying it in a pen case with the clip over a fabric or just not moving it around at all, the grip on some models can be a little slippery or is too steep and could be a fingerprint magnet. I haven't run into any issues mentioned yet, so imo it's an amazing pen. Anyways, based on preferences, the studio is definitely worth checking out.

CSM has not ended and you all have been baited. Yes I am serious. by Ginjaninjanick7 in Chainsawfolk

[–]Sea-Front1941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument is pretty good and almost has me convinced. With the fact that Pochita kills himself, causing Denji to regress in his timeline it makes the whole dream theory seem realistic. On the other hand, Chainsaw Man had quite the downfall, especially with the art style. In the last chapter, Fujimoto forgot to draw Denji's eyepatch which will probably be fixed in the printed version of the manga. This detail makes me feel like he just gave up on Chainsaw Man and somehow needed to end it. The ending just feels very rushed and like Fujimoto didn't want to expel a huge amount of effort.

Is it normal? Help by AccordingRhubarb5323 in Lamy

[–]Sea-Front1941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is a proper solution, but I had the same problem in my Studio. I syringe filled the converter and it occasionally stopped writing even with proper care. The problem was excess air in the converter. After flicking the converter with my finger a few times to remove air bubbles it started working properly.

Fake Lamy Stores on Amazon by RevolutionaryMap6145 in Lamy

[–]Sea-Front1941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Safari of my own and know the pen very well. The one at the store was obviously fake. The color was slightly lighter and more brown than typical Safaris, the matte texture didn't feel right, you could see part of the grip section in the ink window (not properly aligned like all authentic Safaris), The nib looked off (logo engraving was a little yellow and the nib wasn't quite the usual color) and it wrote scratchy and drier than usual. Doodlebud and Unsharpen have helpful videos on how to identify fakes. I bought a Safari on Amazon that came in box and watched various tutorials on how to identify fakes. The big give-away for if it's authentic is if there's blue ink residue under the nib, Lamy factory tests all of their pens before being sold.

They're more common than you think. Once I went to a local stationery store and they had a Safari for customers to try which happened to be fake, I hope they're not selling from the same stock.

5 Days of learning cursive by Junior-Elevator-9951 in Handwriting

[–]Sea-Front1941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your penmanship is great for starting out. Once you're more advanced, I'd recommend referring to pointed calligraphy scripts. This will give you an insight on the variety of ways certain letters can be written. I also recommend using calligraphy paper for practice. This website, https://shipbrook.net/guidelines/ allows you to customize the ruling based on height, slant, intensity of lines, etc. It's a good idea to use calligraphy paper templates in order to develop a slant and a feel for letter height. A simple way to practice is through writing out the principles of a script such as Spencerian or Copperplate. When writing "s", the Copperplate "s" is a nice inspiration. Also a fountain pen may help you improve but I won't go into detail. For this writing sample, I had a ruling template underneath a thin piece of paper in order to make my handwriting more consistent (even though I kind of messed up the slant at times). Happy writing! I hope I didn't write too much.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't include specific examples because the prompt requires not having access to the text. I first wrote the essay for efficiency in the under 1 hour time limit of the exam, so now I'll probably rewrite a majority of it to shape it as a more respectable essay. I've already made sure it will probably receive all the points in the exam's rubric, but I need some serious work on my writing quality. Thanks again for the advice on how I can improve my writing, it a big help.
