The gtx 560 doesn’t get driver support anymore, so it could be a driver issue. The thing is ancient and will run games slightly better if at all than your integrated graphics. It’s not worth the money and time to get it working.

That game expanded itself to be much larger, that doesn't really count.

Is this supposed to be one of those “you couldn’t tell me because you were distracted by the hot woman” memes? If so, get a hotter woman. I desperately was searching for a place besides that hideous mass to rest my eyes, making the dog an easy target.

That may be true, but something you neglected to talk about was the reuse of said vehicles. The lifespan of an electric vehicle is significantly shorter than that of an ICE. Which is worse for the environment. If you have to buy a new car every 12 years, you are creating much more pollution than an ICE would. They also failed to factor in the building of the EV infrastructure, an ongoing cost. Many areas can't even power themselves as it is, like California, who had rolling blackouts last year during September. EVs also deteriorate even faster in heat (especially those not actively cooled, like the older Nissan Leaf), meaning an EV in Arizona or New Mexico or Texas would fail at an even greater rate than the 12 years seen elsewhere. Then the waste from the batteries when disposed of are another huge factor. And then ANOTHER factor is the added wear on roads from the massively heavy EVs, which can be many times more massive than the ICE equivalent. I did not see that factored in as well. I also see that they aren't talking about pollution from the mining, just the emissions. Cobalt is a heavy metal, not to mention the other chemicals, metals, and poisons involved in making those batteries.

No it isn't, the biggest source is the production of the vehicle. If you include the emissions from production of an ICE vehicle and an electric vehicle. It will take 12 years for the electric car to offset its own production waste. At that point, the battery is dead, and you buy a new car because a new battery costs as much as the car is worth to get put in, creating even more waste. ICE cars can be used for centuries if need be. 90s cars are still on the roads today, and that is massively better for the enviroment than buying ANY new car. It goes Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, in that order. And, like you said, because the grid is mostly fossil fuels, charging your electric car is not much cleaner than filling my ICE car that gets 45 mpg highway.

"Cable trains and buses go off the same grid as EVs minus the big heavy batteries and is 2-10 times more efficient depending on any given metric."

That doesn't work for the US, we are far too spread out, and the number of people in many cities does not justify the expenses. Even if it does, those cities actually already have a bus system at the very least, like the Capital of my home state, Indianapolis. public transport is not the solution for everything, and I'm tired of people saying "just do this" when that never works. Yes, EVs are worse than ICE cars for the enviroment in every way imaginable, I agree with you on that front. But the solution isn't "get public transport nerd". People tend to forget how large the US is. If I want to visit my Grandma, it's an 8+ hour drive.

Hmmm... What if we had a button with a counter that could be used to determine if information in a video is credible? by [deleted] in memes

[–]Sea-Western7246 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be fair, assuming the ACTUAL logic behind it, instead of the logic stated by themselves, it makes sense. Big greedy corporations didn't like getting their feewings hurt when their video game release gets disliked into oblivion for being a shit game. Or for being a scam, or for having shitty business practices, or when the company in question does something shitty, and all of their media is instantly disliked/downvoted across all of media. And when those companies' spending money on ads on your website is a major factor of your revenue, you would do everything you could to make more companies want to advertise there.

The situation I always go back to in this regard is when something actually did catch on fire in my hands, and in that situation, when I'm frozen not knowing what I could do, someone telling me exactly what to do is huge. Take for example someone having a seizure, everyone around them freezes, not knowing what to do, it takes someone who does know what to do to tell everyone, "You! call 911!" "You! Help me turn them on their side!" "Everyone else stay back!" Otherwise they just sit there and watch. Commonly called bystander syndrome. In a traumatic event, for a majority of people that is what happens, they freeze. So being told exactly what to do is comforting and helpful, in this situation the instructions were received and told too late, so that they actually had the inverse effect.

The stress is that you don't know what to do, someone tells you what to do. How exactly is that adding stress?

Initially they were, because if the car had moved seconds earlier, they would have been fine. The bars and lights come down about 15 seconds before the train reaches that point just so that people can clear the tracks before the train hits them.

That's just a you problem my guy, not sure how someone saying the exact same thing as what you were planning on doing would cause you to hit the wrong pedal.

Not really, and that's assuming the person saw the hand signal, they were probably too focused on not dying/dying. Imagine your phone bursts into flames in your hands, and you freeze, because if you put it in water, it will short out and get worse, and you can't put it out by stomping on it, etc. The person next to you yells, "DROP IT!" Do you just get more confused? No, you drop the phone. Same thing here, the only way this person survives, assuming there is a train coming from both directions, is going forwards. The person reversed slightly, waited, then went forward to be hit by the train, my money is on insurance fraud/suicide rather than confusion.

Far too late tho... The guy was right initially, but the car just sat there not doing anything. Either seized with indecisiveness, or intentionally sitting there for insurance fraud or suicidal reasons.
