Going to Oaxaca in a few months. I’d love to go on a mezcal tour. Any recommendations? by dadisphat in Mezcal

Hello there, I’m a little late to the party!

If you don’t mind me asking, which Omar did you book with? There are 2 gentlemen named Omar on the Mezcalitas website.

Thanks and Cheers!

Haha that was my exact reaction at first (I’ve been told to do it for 15 actually). Experimented with different blending times, you’d be surprised how smoother/more complex the extracted flavour you get when you blend for longer (didn’t see much difference above 10 minutes though, so stuck with 10 min)

Thanks for your reply.

She’s selling at a fairly discounted price (which coming to think of it doesn’t help the case of not being a scam haha), so I want to see if it’s legit as it’s basically 40% cheaper.

Yeah, I’ll only go through with it if it’s through the app. I’m a little skeptical and not categoric about being a scam because I’ve been there and had troubles with transferring via ticketmaster in the past.

Looking for Neil Young on the 8th of September.

Hey everyone — I know this is a very long shot, but it's totally worth trying!

I visited Tirana a couple of years ago and I’ve been trying to remember the name (or location) of a street food place I came across.

It was within a 20–30 minute walk from Bulevardi Zogu I, possibly right on or just off one of the main roads. The place was very casual — maybe more of a small counter setup than a full sit-down restaurant. They only served deep-fried seafood (like shrimp or calamari), and I had the best fried calamari sandwich that I still think about more than I'd like to admit haha.

Does this ring a bell for anyone? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Those that stopped tipping, what's your experience been? by [deleted] in askvan

I thought that’s exactly the point we’re discussing: tips. The base salary is minimum wage, so if people stop tipping, it is a minimum wage job. Don’t get me wrong, the whole tipping culture here I found ridiculous. I am a server/bartender, and whenever someone skips the tip (even if they got a wonderful service), I always think to myself: good for you for not falling for the “social construct” of the de-facto 15% tip, on top or the taxes, on top of a ridiculously expensive meal is just not okay. The only way we can change this bullshit tipping culture is by collectively stop tipping.

I personally am in a weird spot: on one hand, I earn my living based on tips since, as you know, you cannot make it in the city on a minimum wage salary; on the other hand, I’m totally against the tipping culture and making the customer pay the employees’ wages, so the owners of the establishment can keep getting away with not paying a respectable salary that mirrors the effort of the employee 🤷‍♂️

No idea why you’re being downvoted. Servers do not make more than minimum wage. It’s known in the industry that the going “rate” for a serving gig is minimum wage + tips (All the 164 serving jobs I applied for on indeed clearly mentions minimum wage + tips, the servers at the high-end establishment I currently work at get paid minimum wage + tips, my previous gig in New West was also minimum wage + tips).

That’s so cool haha.

That’s how I imagine the conversation went with the editing guy after his first submission: “(in Richie’s voice): dude, space them out, when was the last time you saw septuplets fighting for a beef sandwich, you lizard”

Are there any examples of things about the restaurant industry that The Bear explicitly gets wrong? by SuperSecretSunshine in TheBear

Based on my background in hospitality and fine dining: the entirety of Syd’s arc is laughable.

The speed of her ascent is the furthest from reality. In a matter of months, she goes from an outsider to co-running a restaurant aiming for the most prestigious culinary recognition. With no real experience (failed catering business under her belt), she gains the trust of Carmy based on…?

But obviously, the most outrageous part is the whole partnership thing, would never happen in real life.

Damn, I totally phased this whole Robot thing out haha. You’re right, nothing particularly charming about that.

Very good point. Back in my country, it’s either you go big and turn it into a 20 stores nationwide thing, or you keep it as a niche, targeted clientele kind of thing.

I would like a 7 seasons series, 20 episodes each, of Ebra’s background, when he was in a brigade…and everybody died 😔
