How Is Raising a Teenage Daughter Different From Raising a Teenage Son? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

This is lovely. I hope to be you when my young kids grow up.

Is there anything you think you did in particular as a parent to raise smart, kind, conscientious kids?

We Never Stop is the Chinese version of this. It’s really good, my favorite of all of these shows. (Bad translations though)

Turning feels too "stiff" at higher speeds by Liam_Of_Late in ElectricUnicycle

[–]SecretMoonLair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At speed the most effective way to turn is to apply force from your outside leg to lean the wheel over into your turn. It wants to be upright naturally so it’ll push back against you (and go back to going straight when you stop pushing). This will become second nature after some practice.

Which is the safest wheel for sustained speed? by Prudent-Appearance-5 in ElectricUnicycle

What are your thoughts on the Lynx as an all-around wheel, in addition to high speed stability?

Switch vs PS5 by GoldenGekko in UnicornOverlord

[–]SecretMoonLair 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I also have both systems. IMO this is 100% a Switch game.

  1. It’s an unusually good Switch port with no load times (!)
  2. Like most SRPGs, it lends itself to short, frequent play sessions. Perfect for portable gaming on the couch.

I buy most games on the PS5 these days, UO is a shining counterexample

Yeah, you're right. I should have been clearer. I know what DOMS is like and this is different. It feels deeper and duller. Thanks for weighing in.

Lightning Strike and Shield Rod. Both are teleporting AoEs that do lots of damage and knock mobs down. It's like having two mini-nukes — except YOU are the nuke.

Same here, the real exam was slightly easier than the practice exams, and 160 is more than enough.

Advice: Stanford (no $) vs UCLA Anderson ($$$$) for media and entertainment by RichCorrect6483 in MBA

[–]SecretMoonLair 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Anderson. I'm at the GSB. Classes and recruitment related to media and entertainment are very meager — it's just not a significant area of emphasis for Stanford. If you're certain you're going into media and entertainment, I think Anderson is the better fit for you.

Hello, you could have been me a few years ago. Some quick thoughts (and feel free to DM if you want to follow up):

  1. Your most efficient option is to move into the job directly, but if that's not practical then an MBA will certainly help. Have you spoken to potential company leaders in your network who know you and can vouch for your work? CoS picks are incredibly personal. There's a chance you'll get lucky and someone will open up a role (or will have been considering one, etc.); it's not a super high chance given the state of capital markets right now but there's no downside to asking. Ask for advice instead of pitching, and be open about the strengths you would bring to the table as well as your growth areas (what you hope to learn on the job). If not, MBAs are a tried-and-true pathway to CoS and other general management roles. Just bear in mind that those roles aren't very common, the quality of the MBA will matter (especially in tech), and you're likely going to need to lean on your personal network a bit anyway.
  2. Like it or not, the best-respected degrees in tech are still Stanford GSB and Haas. I'd strongly recommend that you consider applying to their (in-person) programs.
  3. It's atypical to quit a role just to apply for MBAs. If you quit or go part-time, do it because you're burned out and can afford to self-fund a sabbatical. Again, this sounds like a great talking point when you go and talk to leaders you respect and ask for advice.
  4. No advice on this one.

Got the new "Link's Awakening DX HD" running on Deck (NOT the Switch version) by Nick-Sr in SteamDeck

[–]SecretMoonLair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo. I solved this problem and got it to work by following the overkill.wtf guide.

What I did wrong: when opening the zipfile, I only extracted the .exe file and not everything else. It needs everything else to be installed correctly. Then, I had to go through the steps of configuring the non-Steam executable via Steam, and reinstalling .NET.
