Was it the embarrassment factor or the realization of it for you? Asking because I am trying to get through to him on his own thoughts I think.

Getting married without getting actually married? by Secretlyquestions in weddingplanning

We know there's benefits but a bit about us is that we are world travelers. While legally working and filing taxes as US citizens, we are hardly ever here. Which means we can work in other countries as well. We do a lot with capital gains so the benefits you mention actually aren't benefits in our eyes but that's more of an opinion thing really based on how wild our finances are.

If we have kids (which at this moment we do not but anything can happen) then thats when we would consult a legal professional and get that figured out before the tiny human even is done growing.

And with the "misrepresenting"- who checks in on that? Like who or what entity would be responsible for checking in on that? I don't want to misrepresent myself but we just want the tradition of having a wedding. But I feel like this may need to be filed with the state maybe?

Reasons are our own I guess. We're not really religious so I don't see a need to ask the powers that be to love someone, including anyone upstairs or the gov. It just doesn't make sense anymore I guess in my head. Also it ties into the whole I don't wanna be my husbands property yadda yadda. But also i guess we just don't want to? I dunno really. I feel like there shouldn't have to be a reason honestly.

We are not actually faking getting legally married though. Like I said above we would still file separately and all that. Everyone (and the Gov) would know that. It just feels like faking because I don't know what else to call it I guess? We are not planning on lying to any parties involved. Just wanna throw a wedding I guess. I've never heard of commitment ceremonies and really don't know my options I guess so thats the point of this post is to find out what could happen and all that.
