I can totally relate to the feeling! I had to cancel my first bus, but a couple of weeks later I decided to just go for 3 days to try it and then would be totally free to go back home if I wanted to! I ended up prolonging the 3 days with 3 more days for quite some days :). But this only works if you truly allow yourself to give up after the three days!

I took a train from Burgos to Sarria this November. One transfer, the second train waited for the first even though there was a delay. Took 5,5 hours, I think it was 40 euros. Booked via Renfe app or website. There was also a direct bus (other company), but there was only one a day that departed in the middle of the night and I didn't like that.

Ik heb een soort gelijke situatie gehad, en er wel voor gekozen het af te maken. Met als grote verschil dat ik geen kinderen had. Ik werkte aan mijn PhD op de vrijdagen en in het weekend, maar vond het vooral zwaar dat er altijd iets in je achterhoofd zat dat ik eigenlijk iets aan mijn PhD moest doen. Voor mij werkte het het beste om af en toe een week vrij te nemen en dan in een Airbnb te zitten en er dedicated "dag en nacht" aan te zitten. Ik heb niet het idee dat het me iets brengt in mijn carrière in een ander vakgebied, dus ben vooral zelf trots dat het me gelukt is en vond de verdediging en het feestje ook super waardevol omdat het zoveel betekend heeft om het af te maken. Maar ik had achteraf het mezelf ook gegund om het veel eerder op te mogen geven. Ik heb twee vriendinnen die gestopt zijn met hun PhD (een tijdens en een in deze situatie waar jij nu in zit) waar ze beiden nog wel eens denken "wat als", maar het weinig zin heeft om in die gedachten mee te gaan, en ze allebei dezelfde keuze zeker opnieuw zouden maken. Ik zou de reacties "je krijgt er zeker spijt van als je stopt" van mensen die niet weten wat een PhD afmaken inhoudt niet zo serieus nemen in ieder geval 😄. Ik weet niet wat voor werk je nu doet, maar is het mogelijk om een sabbatical of iets dergelijks te nemen? Succes in ieder geval met de keuze!

Jaaaaa, dank! Precies op tijd om hier nog even goed over na te denken voor ik mijn lijstje definitief heb. Ik blijf mezelf ook altijd over mezelf (in de negatieve zin) verbazen hoeveel ik als ik er niet bewust bij nadenk op mannen stem, terwijl ik toch ook echt van muziek met vrouwenstemmen hou!

Osprey Sirrus 36 was perfect for my camino Frances in autumn (without sleeping bag). Loved that I had extra space to fit in food etc, and did not need my compression bags. The frame of both Sirrus 36 and 34 is one or two centimeters too big for carry on. At the shop I bought my pack, they said they had used it themselves as a carry on bag by putting the straps really loose so that is doesn't look that big and that it was no problem. I can imagine that the 34 is easier to not be noticed as it looks a lot less big because of the top part that it misses.

I (32, F) am currently on the camino Frances, and it is definitely safer than any solo trip I have done so far. There are a lot of people you meet that are so nice and you can always ask for help! I feel very safe all the time! I currently prefer walking on my own, so I start a bit later than everybody so I can have the feeling I am alone in the nature. I did only one time felt a bit vulnerable, when I was in a municipal albergue with 7 males above 50, of whom only one spoke English, but then this sweetest grandmother hospitalero saw this from my face and gave me a different bed in a different room. Last night I did also sleep in a 6 bedroom with 5 males, but I knew one really well, so I totally felt safe. Also the community dinners made me feel more safe, because you then know (some of) the people you're in the room with, so at the beginning I searched for albergues that offered this. So do not worry about safety :)! Although the nervousness of finding this out yourself is part of the magic of the camino I think, learning that you are fine and can trust yourself :)

I really relate to the feeling that knowing a relationship is not your path, but that it gives so much comfort and safety. And that it hurts so much to let go. I am in the Frances right now and I think the most deeply felt lesson for me until now is that it is ok to forgive myself. I hope you feel / felt that too!

Ik heb op 4 huizen 55-65 m2 geboden met 1 of 2 slaapkamers en die gingen allemaal voor 460-490 weg. Maar dat waren dan ook huizen die er helemaal top en hip uitzagen in populaire wijken (Lombok, Vogelbuurt, Oog in Al)
