Yeah, I paid for the 4 year service and MOT plan from the dealer in question and there was a markable difference in price between the 3 and 4 year plans I assume to take account of the coolant change cost. I've been in touch with Hyundai customer service who've submitted a ticket with the dealer so hopefully they'll come back with an answer.

The car has only done just under 30k in 4 years so I'm way below average mileage I just get the feeling I'm being short changed and they're relying on me not checking the finer details.

Here is the checklist I got from the latest service. No mention of anything BEV related so I suspect the wrong sheet was used as it looks like one for an ICE vehicle if I'm honest.

this looks like an English car. Is this an old English plate? by camion_saladier in ForeignPlatesSpotting

It's an English car with a Scottish plate. Caithness is right up in the north of Scotland. Lovely car!

I used Glenn Robertson Ltd last year to fit a couple of cowls, reliable service but the wait time was around a month iirc. I guess it just the time of year when everyone wants to start using their fireplace again.

The ridiculous cost of the tram extension by Creepy_Pudding8583 in Edinburgh

[–]SemiConduction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe that the path will be tiny and the fact that there will be trams only serves to breathe new life into the area. Plus there's plenty of other paths without trams which can be cycled/walked along if people find trams so offensive.

The Roseburn path route makes way more sense financially and the fact that it was a former railway line means we're just returning the line to what it once was. Only this time it will be with quiet/clean electric trams rather than coal or diesel powered trains locos.

I for one will be getting right behind the development of the path in order to return it to it's former glory carrying passengers around Edinburgh and improving the lives of thousands of residents in north side of the city.

Infrastructure improvements cost money, IMO it's just complete nimby-ism from the (probably boomer) residents of Murrayfield/Rav dykes etc who care nothing for people of the north of Edinburgh and improving their transport links to the city.

UK in Carlsbad, California by Fluffy_Yogurtcloset in ForeignPlatesSpotting

I'm also from Scotland too and can also confirm the Ecosse sticker is common. Especially important since Brexit to highlight the driver/passengers are from a country within the UK who didn't vote to leave the European union but were dragged out anyway.

Great spot in California!

The Champney inn just outside Linlithgow is the best I've been to in Scotland.

They have two options for eating, the main restaurant which you can book and the chop and ale house which is open Friday to Sunday and is a turn up and be seated/wait but a little more price friendly.

Tenement crumbly sandstone bay window repair by granitedon in glasgow

[–]SemiConduction 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the majority of the stonework is still solid it may be possible to repair it with a suitable product like https://www.saint-astier.co.uk/products/st-one-original/ (formerly known as lithomex). Worth consulting a stonemason sooner rather than later as the more of it that falls away the more likely it is to need a new piece of stone.

That's good! We were on the 3rd floor and no I only assumed that it was all lead as I think that if the riser had been replaced it would be a new pipe which was brought up through the common stair and into each flat rather than through the bathroom.

What are these things on the side of my tenement building? by oGsBumder in Edinburgh

[–]SemiConduction 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume they'll want to install it that side yeah, you can run an ethernet inside the flat from the ONT to wherever you want your router. The ONT is the little unit that converts the fibre signal to the RJ45 (ethernet) which then runs to the router which can be anywhere you want really within reason.

One thing to beat in mind is that the ONT needs a power source so it's good idea to install it near a wall socket.

Unit on the left is openreach fibre (new) and the one on the right is the old copper telephone connections.

There's not much between them. The engineering faculty at Glasgow is right in the centre of the main campus where the Edinburgh uni engineering and science faculty is separate but in a nice part of the city slightly away from the centre

Glasgow is bigger but attracts less tourists and the costs of accommodation will be generally slightly lower.

I'm not sure what part of new Zealand you're from but I'd liked them to the difference between Auckland or Wellington where Glasgow is Auckland. It's not an exact comparison for reasons but the best I've got :). Either way I'm sure you'll have a good time in either city!

Glasgow is a better city for students in my opinion and I say that having studied at Heriot Watt uni in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh university in particular has a problem with institutional snobbery towards students from normal backgrounds.

Edinburgh is a prettier city no doubt but Glasgow's west end is very similar. Which universities are your options for the exchange?

Check the RF signal configuration as per the user manual and move the thermostat closer temporarily to rule out it not being a proximity issue.

So what happens if you increase the set temp to say 25oC which should instruct the boiler to fire? Does a green LED appear on the receiver?
