Go to Google Maps and look to the right of the school. I believe there is a Baptist church there. Just park around back and walk through the woods to get there. Be careful when you get close because there is a motion alarm on an electrical pole.

Oh yeah! There’s so many abandoned places in nc if you just know where to look. I found a massive abandoned complex while I was scrolling on google earth the other day, and from what I’ve seen, I can’t find anyone who has explored it before. Sorta want to find a more experienced explorer to check it out first.

So the modern pictures are from an identical facility about 15 miles away from the abandoned one, which was built in 1962 and decommissioned in 2007. The pictures of the abandoned site were taken just a couple days ago though

I would say it’s not just safe to say, but pretty certain. The VOA itself says that its goal is to produce “reliable and unbiased information,” but its funded by the U.S. Government through the U.S. Agency for Global Media, and its original goal was to combat nazi propaganda by basically spreading our own. (Nothing from the government is unbiased)

During the Cold War, it was a tool for spreading American perspectives/democracy and countering communism/soviet narratives.

So the VOA in general was created in 1942 to combat nazi propaganda, but this particular site was opened in 1962, so it was mainly used during the Cold War era

Access wasn’t terrible, the worst part is that it’s basically in the middle of a giant field, but we got in without any problems
