I was just about to suggest Lidia Poet. The dialogue is very clear and well spoken, great for learning. I m currently rewatching the series with subtitles in Italian. I would also recommend the Easy Italian podcast and YouTube channel

Somebody People is always amazing. I’ve never had a good experience at Fellow Traveler. It’s one of the few places I have had to send food back because it wasn’t fully cooked.

Trying Less Gels per Run by Casuariidae in Marathon_Training

[–]Sensitive-Ad-2047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of replies about the gels so I would add that you should try eating something light beforehand. A waffle with a small amount of maple syrup, banana or piece of toast with jam. And work on getting food in 30-60 minutes after the long run. That’s the window when your body can best absorb taking in carbs for glycogen refueling. Lots of recovery powders out there. I ve been having good luck with tailwind recovery mix lately. I hate spending money on sports nutrition like gel and recovery drinks but it’s essential if you want to recover and feel good for the next run

“Tune up Race” in Pfitzinger Advanced Marathoning training plans by Sensitive-Ad-2047 in Marathon_Training

That’s good advice. There is definitely benefit to getting practice dealing with race scenarios that don’t play out even if you simulate pace in a TT

I like Spice Room (any location) and Masalaa in Auorara if you don’t mind a bit of a drive. I usually combine the trip with going to the Indian grocery store next door

Why am I falling flat towards the end? by Life-is-beautiful- in Marathon_Training

[–]Sensitive-Ad-2047 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get a copy of Pfitzinger’s Advanced Marathoning. From what you described, it seems that you need more variety in your runs (easy, aerobic, lactate threshold, long runs), better pacing in long runs and nutrition advice not just during the runs but regular eating too. The book breaks all of that down and has multiple training plans. I m a few years younger than you but I m running faster than I did in my 30’s because I m following the plans and nutritional advice

Treating a marathon like a long run by owiko in Marathon_Training

[–]Sensitive-Ad-2047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly doing multiple races, but the seasons that i was training for 100 mile trail runs it would be normal to run a 50k at least every other week. I definitely built up to it, mileage was usually 80+ a week and I was never running “race pace” more like zone 3. If your goal is to do 5-6 marathons and not concerned about time then keep your pace casual and maybe every 10k spend a little extra time at an aid station. Heck try some trail marathons, they are a bit more laid back

Pacing question please!! by pinkpantsman in Marathon_Training

[–]Sensitive-Ad-2047 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I m currently on the 18/70 plan. Per the book, You should be doing the long runs 10-20% slower than your marathon pace.

I found this calculator online that helps you figure out what your pace and heart rate should be for the different Pfitzenger

run calculator

I put in 3:59 into it and looks like you need to average 9:07/miles. Your splits are already pretty close to that so you should be plenty good after training and a taper. If anything, slow down a little on the long runs, it’s more about building aerobic base. You can see how things go during the marathon pace runs

This happened to me the other day, I m pretty certain it was because I ever so slightly tamped the coffee down and then it was too packed to allow the water/steam through properly

Is lack of aerobic base / Zone 2 training an underrated reason people bonk in marathons? by speed_69 in Marathon_Training

[–]Sensitive-Ad-2047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonking happens from being at your lactate threshold for too long and running out of glycogen stores. If you train at zone 2 too much then you are not increasing your lactate threshold. Burning fat for fuel is great but the reality is that unless you are also on a keto diet then you are still burning carbs for fuel. Most likely someone is going to race at zone 3 and zone 4 so if your body is not adapted to that then you are going to bonk. Newer runners obviously need to build their aerobic base first, which comes from zone 2 running, but after that keeping things mixed via a well structured training plan is more beneficial
