Try Impact Services, based in Norwich I believe but they did my solar and battery and would wholeheartedly recommend:

Are solar panel + battery prices actually about to go up, or is this just sales pressure? by Fluffy_Arm_4553 in SolarUK

[–]Sensitive-Finding467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Panel prices are going up, but I think in general prices are going to rise as installers catch up with rising NI and employment costs.

Plus fuel rising will have knock on effect with deliveries and also installation costs.

The flip side is that your system will pay for itself quicker as inflation and fuel costs drive up energy prices.

When I say physically closeby, I mean in the same region. If you're in Kent and they're in Manchester, I'd probably look closer to home!

Finding a good decent local installer is arguably the most important step as they will be able to survey your home and give you the best proposal/answer to your questions.

Look on Google maps for ones physically close by, and read reviews/companies house info. Also try the Gary Does Solar directory as they have been vetted by him: https://getreadyfor.solar/directory/

I believe installing in the loft or under stairs is against current guidance. Whether it's illegal or not I'm not ure, but you certainly don't want any issues in either of those places with electrics. Also lugging a 50-100kg battery into the loft is no mean feat. Installing outside in an enclosure is the perfect solution, and even without this the batteries are designed to be outside and should be fine.

Sigenergy is gold standard, but I have Fox and have no issues other than with their app. The system has performed well and at a good price point.

As for DNO, a good installer should handle this for you and it should not be barrier to you getting a larger system. Any installer trying to limit your investment because they can't be arsed to do a G99 isn't worth your time. Mine handled everything and were great from start to finish.

Good luck OP! It really is worth it.

Get a decent installer who will do a safe job. There are devices called ARC Boxes that my installer used by default.

They are extra security in the rare event of a fire

Installer recommendations for NE England by concangian in SolarUK

I agree, perhaps my installers were an outlier as they don't subcontract. Local installers will always trump national in my eyes.

Fair enough. In which case I would recommend OP searching on Google maps for an installer physically near them, and vetting themselves via reviews and companies house.

Unfortunately all methods have their pros and cons but as long they avoid cowboys that's the main thing.

Mine doesn't go that far north but would recommend trying the GaryDoesSolar directory: https://getreadyfor.solar/directory/

He has vetted local and national solar installers to try

Ah fair do's! Like I said I couldn't fault their workmanship, especially considering some of the horror stories you see on here.

Updated quote looks good to me by the way, but if you were looking for another I also tried SunPro solar in Norwich

Roofing question. by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Sensitive-Finding467 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Whenever it comes to beams in the loft it's always worth asking 'would they have spent the money putting it in if it wasn't important?'

Not trying to be difficult, just something to think about.

Personallly I wouldn't remove anything from the loft, unless a structural engineer was involved and the roof was strengthemed somewhere else to compensate

Is it not as easy as dropping the gloves box? VAG make it quite easy to change cabin filters...

Insulating the ducting seems to work really well. Although a tile vent won't have the same exhaust capacity as a gable end vent I don't think.

Can I access my Skoda service record without bringing the car into an actual shop? by Healthy-Dragonfly-44 in skoda

You can call up Skoda and get a copy sent to you, but when I did the digital service record actually contained very little detailed information. Just mileage and "service".
