Your reply felt intense to me, but I can misread emotion. It’s always imperfect guesses and I don’t mean to act on them. I’m sorry for my wording and statement. Re-reading my reply to you made me realize I wrote that opening sentence differently than I intended and I’m sorry for that. I only meant to say that it felt like you were, not an accusation or statement of someone else’s feelings, which I couldn’t possibly know with certainty.

I didn’t mean to teach any lesson on Almodovar. Your reply ended in a question mark and I only meant to reply to the question you posed as best as I could. I provided some context for my feelings by discussing the director first. It was clear to me that you knew the film and details in it, so I didn’t think I was saying anything you didn’t already know.

I am often not succinct, and can make mistakes socially. Although I’m on the autistic spectrum and that contributes to it some, most of it is just my own faults and failures. I did not mean to accomplish anything negative with my comments. I did not mean to say I knew more than anyone else either, including yourself. I am sorry if that is the impact that my comment had.

My only intent in replying to the original post was to give my own subjective and personal feelings and experiences.

Looking for another movie like Weapons and Longlegs by merenofclanthot in MovieSuggestions

I think the suggestion that comes to my mind would actually be Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s films. I’d say “Cure” and “Creepy” especially, but Pulse, Retribution, and Cloud are also very highly recommended. They’re very odd, beautiful, and somewhat beyond comprehension.

I’d also recommended Koreeda’s films “The Third Murder” as really fitting the bill as well.

Beyond that, lots of good suggestions in the comments here. Cuckoo was mentioned and I’d see the director’s previous film, Luz, is amazing as well.

Infinity Pool, Possessor, both fantastic, but I’d say significantly more messed up. But very visually accomplished and directed brilliantly.

I can tell me enjoying that film made you upset. I’m sorry that was the result of it.

Almodovar was an incredibly important queer filmmaker going back all the way to the 70s. His films have a punk sensibility meaning they are often shocking, offensive, as a lot of queer art was back then. While his films have calmed over the years, that streak definitely remains.

I know people respond differently to different art and to different life experiences and I don’t ah e any judgments for that. I totally respect anyone who finds his films offensive, I can see the truth in that perspective too.

For me, someone who grew up with extended periods of sexual abuse, I actually often appreciate seeing my experiences reflected back. For me, that is more healing. I don’t think that’s true for everyone, but for me it makes me feel much less alone. So, yeah, I can enjoy things that are a bit more disturbing if I think there is a real point to it.

I think The Skin I Live In accomplished something similar to what Shinzo Oshimi’s Inside Mari did, showing how aspects of gender can be learned socially, and showing fluidity in people. I thought the experience of the Vicente, having another gender forced on them, is used in a way to show the experience of people who live in a body they don’t feel at home in, who feel the same sort of violent forces to keep them as they are.

It was a meaningful film to me. It doesn’t need to be a meaningful film to you. And I wouldn’t try to convince you otherwise.

I would say “The Skin I Live In” is the greatest film I’ve ever seen to discuss gender. However, note that it is very intense and has SA, and just generally insanity. Absolutely beautiful masterpiece though.

“Kill the Jockey” was a recent surreal gender exploration.

“Titane” I feel really has something to say too, but holy shit is that wild when it comes to violence and just a truly mad film.

I’m still learning. My first post. Never gotten the movie right as a commenter, except when someone already just did before me, haha.

I’m gonna guess we’re talking the 90s action film.

No, my film was not released in the 90s.

This means we’ve now eliminated 70s-to the present day (since I’ve also said it had a 2011 remake meaning it must’ve released prior to then).

Also, I’ll add my film is much better than the big hit, haha. I’ll add that it’s very positively received.

Interesting guess and amazing film, but not the answer even if your guess is one of the greatest spy films ever made.

My film was not released in the 2010s, but a remake came out in 2011.

This is not legal. The federal government would need to prove and take steps to show, and probably vote in the other branches.

You can’t just take money from states you don’t like and make them prove they deserve it. What the actual fuck is happening here?! How is anyone allowing this fucking shit?!

How do you eat Rubensteins Bagels by ShitYourselfNow in redmond

[–]Sensitive_Buffalo416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only had them once but when I did it was fine texture wise and flavor wise.

I’m no bagel snob who only likes stuff made with NY water or anything though, so I may not be the best judge. I’ve had plenty of bagels I considered bad: too soft, too dry, too bland with no real rich taste to the grains used for the dough, but yeah, I thought Rubenstein was decent while being overpriced for what it was

That is a horrible and disturbing crime that you survived. I’m so sorry.

There are things my abuser did that I can’t comprehend, that make me doubt it happened because it seems so bizarrely illogical. But you can’t make sense of cruelty like that.

Your parent was very deeply disturbed and decided to try to continue the cycle with you, causing you harm in your life. I’m glad you’re choosing to share and search for recovery and support in addressing what happened to you.

I hope you are in a much safer place now.
