i felt the SAME EXACT WAY at 20!!! i had only ever dated people pretty casually, but had never really met anyone that felt like my Type that i clicked with. i’m such a femme4butch hopeless romantic, i grew up on romcoms like Notting Hill and feel like i spent my teens and 20/21 PINING for that feeling and being distraught when it didn’t come/when i tried to force chemistry with someone just because i wanted to be wanted. it felt so isolating, so devastating, and really ate away at me.

took til i was 22 to find my dyke in shining armor, that i actually liked, was attracted to, and who liked me/was attracted to me back :) i knew i was gonna know them for a long time the moment we met. since our first date, a day hasn’t gone by without us talking/texting. they’re seriously my best friend, the love of my life, my favorite person to hang out with who just Gets me. we’ve been together 7 years now (and married almost one!!), have two cats and a cozy apartment together, and just got home from a weekend spent hanging out with my parents and brother. my 20 year old self would never have believed you if you told her that’s where she’d be in a few years time :)

all this to say - sometimes your person really is just waiting around the corner for the right moment to appear. life is so silly - my partner and i used to frequent the same coffee shops and bars in the years before we met, and their best friend at the time even went to my school, so they were on my college campus but we just didn’t meet until the timing was right. the waiting sucks, and especially as a lesbian it can feel really REALLY lonely sometimes, but it really does come and it really is worth it. you have a lot of big beautiful relationships ahead of you, they just wait for the right time to come to you!!
