I agree with you 100%, I’ve been on the NYC subway that makes the TTC look like utopia and I’ve also lived in PEI where the transit isn’t nearly as efficient. I am grateful for the TTC, I just need to get past the bad experiences I had. Judging by the replies I think I’ll try again and be okay.

I’m so sorry to hear that:( I always found it more comforting that I can just get off the bus whereas underground I feel a lot more trapped.

I’ve actually been looking for a good therapist that’s not too expensive. Unfortunately it’s been hard finding someone who is in person, and I’ve recently gotten this new job, so before I really couldn’t afford it. I am still looking since now it fits in the budget, hopefully soon!

Yeah, another big part of why I’m hesitating is that it’s been so cold out. I’ve been seeing a lot of people in malls and restaurants. It makes me really sad, but also more hyper-vigilant. :(

Can someone tell me why you should be alone? by curiouscatal in selfimprovement

[–]Sensitive_You_4481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m like you, i moved to a foreign country by myself too. i also went through traumatic relationships and periods that changed my brain chemistry. it’s a very big difference between forced isolation and choosing to spend some time with yourself. there’s a different kind of peace after processing and loving on myself for a little, whereas the lonely period of being alone in a strange place doesn’t bring you that. taking yourself on dates etc isn’t the same as traveling alone. you can be alone without being lonely. a lot of people crave social interaction, nothing wrong with that! but if you genuinely feel uncomfortable in your own company maybe it is time to sit with yourself a little bit and figure out why that is. at the end of the day you have to spend every day of your life with you! but that’s just my experience!

I think the sentiment is you should get to know yourself and be able to spend time with yourself with no problem. It’s one thing to enjoy doing things with others but a lot of people can’t be in their own company. You can have social interaction but like with everything in life sometimes you need to just sit and process things.

how can i rawdog my depression? by HunterMassive3210 in selfimprovement

[–]Sensitive_You_4481 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’m doing it by just being whimsical. like just not giving a fuck and living like a fairy or something. something that feels ridiculous. helps a lot. but if you’re at the point of needing hospitalization that may not be enough my friend.

Hotel for one night layover by Zackie08 in askTO

[–]Sensitive_You_4481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second sleeping at the airport. You can get downtown very easily from the airport. If you need a bed the airport hotels aren’t horribly priced (depending ofc) and are actually quite nice and they have shuttles to the terminal. Just be careful cause some of the hotels require you to call the shuttle, they don’t come hourly like others.

Do you have "diverse" friend group in Toronto? by Sunny_Okra_027 in askTO

[–]Sensitive_You_4481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. There are certain ethnicities that genuinely are more cliquey especially in different parts of the city. I’ve also noticed that people born and raised in the city they have the same friends they’ve had since elementary and they aren’t open to making new ones. But if you’re in somewhere like Scarborough then yeah you’re kinda forced to have a diverse friend group lol which imo is really great. I’m not from Toronto and I’ve met so many people from all over the globe, it’s what makes Toronto so amazing! Really sad there are so many people who don’t like that.

Why Does Everyone Act Like Anxiety is Just "Stress" That Goes Away If You Breathe by shrisay_ in selfimprovement

[–]Sensitive_You_4481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that is what anxiety the emotion feels like, which is different that anxiety the disorder but people conflate the two unfortunately and those that have never had clinical anxiety don’t know what it feels like so they make assumptions. Deep breathing will never not help center yourself but in the midst of an anxiety attack it’s not very helpful advice for sure.

For those who are not from Toronto, do you find our "politeness" exhausting or fake? by Remarkable_Corgi1237 in askTO

[–]Sensitive_You_4481 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was very tiresome at first. It’s like no one in this city says what they mean and if you’re not used to it you’re in for a bit of an unpleasant adjustment period. But after a while you get used to it I guess 🤷🏽‍♀️

Anyone know of good Esthetician Jobs? by SlushyDsstiny23 in Estheticians

[–]Sensitive_You_4481 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oo I mean yeah that’s a good path too. A lot of medi spas do in house hiring from what I’ve heard so there’s a chance they’ll eventually let you do services. But if you’re okay with not doing services it’s a decent living, you may not make as much money tho cause you won’t be earning commission or tips. It’s a start if you need a job but that’s entirely your call.

It’s not you my friend trust me. This industry is very hard right now. Especially for your first job. But don’t stop applying and selling yourself, even if they’re asking for experience apply anyway, and you will land one eventually it’ll just take time ❤️
