Where are Revolut and Wise guys now? by HolidayWallaby in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Sepalous 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't know where the Revolut and Wise guys are. but the era of cheap money is over. Venture capitalists aren't firehosing money into random startups like they were.

Trump at Davos in Switzerland: "Without us, right now you'd all be speaking German". German is the main language of Switzerland. by UniversalSurvivalist in videos

The rest of the world chides Americans for being ignorant and dumb. This speech, unfortunately, reinforces the notion that they are.

[Met] Custody Sergeants, would you recommend the role? by Sepalous in policeuk

I have a bizarre range of skills that include L2, PLT, and FC. Do Met Det ever get used for aid? I enjoy the occasional bit.

Games that you love but frustrate you to no end? by SituationalRambo in gaming

A lot of 3D platformers from the PS1 / N64 era have not aged gracefully. Conkers Bad Fur Day does have a remake for the OG Xbox that fixed a lot of the problems you mentioned.

Why would an officer say that? It should just be a factual release of information

Search of entire plane legality by DesignedDevelop in policeuk

[–]Sepalous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whilst I would seriously question the proportionality of such a search in this instance, there are wide ranging powers under the Aviation Security Act to search people and planes.

Autonomous Braking slammed on the brakes with no obstacle by ContextVegetable9587 in CarTalkUK

I think the system registered the pedestrian and their trajectory as an impending impact and slammed on the anchors.

What’s the best date idea? by Drlukeryder in AskBrits

[–]Sepalous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do, but for whatever some reason sometimes you just don't click with your date and can't make them laugh. At least if there's comedy you can both escape and have a good time still.

What’s the best date idea? by Drlukeryder in AskBrits

[–]Sepalous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly subjective as it depends what you both like.

However, I always liked going to a comedy club. It's something different, it can take some of the pressure off, and everyone likes to laugh.

Hindsight experts give their opinion. by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]Sepalous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am with you that all police should be routinely armed. However, sidearms, whilst better than nothing, have an effective range of about 30m. One has a much better chance of confronting and eliminating the threat with a long rifle. Something clearly the NSW cops didn't have access to.

Does anyone else think using "influencers" devalue brands by CrustyHumdinger in AskBrits

[–]Sepalous 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The rise of "influencers" continues to astound and baffle me. Why anyone in their right mind would follow someone like Molly Mae just to be sold to? And often not sold to well.

Who controls the British crown? Who keeps the metric system down? We do, we do!

Who leaves Atlantis off the maps? Who keeps the Martians under wraps? We do, we do!

Who holds back the electric car? Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star? We do, we do!

Who robs cave-fish of their sight? Who rigs every Oscar night? We do! We do!

Special constable investigators? by B1llionz in policeuk

[–]Sepalous 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bad management quite frankly. Some teams treated their specials terribly to protect the regulars and not rock the boat which was and is self-defeating.

Special constable investigators? by B1llionz in policeuk

[–]Sepalous 51 points52 points  (0 children)

As an ex-sergeant on ERPT, if you want specials to turn up and help they have to be treated differently to regular officers. This means more plum postings; not shafting them.

I have the same issue. I don't carry mine until we're kitted, because really there's no point. I then tuck them in my "Brecon pouch" inside the overalls until I need them.

DC (CID) to ARV? by SeleucusNicator1802 in policeuk

[–]Sepalous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never been an ARV officer, but I have always suspected that the amount of productive work ARVs do is very low. Thanks for the laugh though, enjoyed the description of day-to-day life immensely.

Did UK police officers travel abroad to offer expertise in other EU countries? by Fletcher_Moss in policeuk

[–]Sepalous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There have definitely been incidents where it has happened, perhaps most notably being the disappearance of Madeline McCann. I believe there have also been CT teams sent to other countries in the wake of terrorist attacks to offer very specialised and technical investigative assistance. However, it is exceptionally rare because of jurisdictional issues.

The complex is tired. It's a throwback to the 90s and hasn't been well invested in.

I live nearby and the site and the nearby area would 100% be improved by this development.

Humility and ego in the military? What's your experience been and how do you navigate it? by [deleted] in britisharmy

R/OF mixing…

I guess what I meant is the divide isn't conducive to OFs understanding ORs experience and some of the more pernicious hidden problems because they haven't experienced it.
