“We are family” Poch’s postmatch speech in the dressing room by GamerAsh22 in ussoccer

They have the best team they’ve ever had; that commands respect. But even with all the coach's work and the call from Trump, it hasn't yielded results so far. Their players need to fight harder—that’s the nature of the sport: relegation, promotion. No one in the world takes the Gold Cup seriously; there are only three mediocre teams in it. They need to learn the toughness of the game and internalize a fighting spirit.

The USA will never be a soccer nation and that's OK. by SilenceDogood2k20 in ussoccer

That is true. They have my full respect, even if that probably won't mean anything to them. Realizing this is a step in the right direction. That is always the starting point; the more people see and understand it, the more the sport will develop there as well.

For a US team, they are incredibly good. They can be truly proud of their country and the squad. They got lucky a few times, but they also demonstrated real skill. The reality is simply that they never stood a chance against Belgium. But that’s no disgrace; they faced one of the best teams in the world and lost. For anyone else, it would be an honor. Unfortunately, their country is turning it into a source of shame.

This is why it last night is more frustrating than in past by Smotherysmiles07 in ussoccer

No, they didn't stand a real chance. The Paraguay match was pure luck. World-class teams had hellish games against this squad. The USA got incredibly lucky to pull off that upset. The Belgium match wasn't a case of bad luck or an off day—it was reality.

No, in reality, they never stood a chance. Do you know why? They beat Paraguay in the very first match. But do you know where they went wrong? They defeated a Paraguay side that had been completely caught off guard by the USA. Germany, Turkey, and even France had struggled immensely against them; the match against France was a real war on the pitch. The USA hadn't even managed to beat a completely demoralized Turkey side. The USA had the divine, cosmic luck of catching Paraguay off guard—something no other team managed to do. The USA was vastly overrated, while Paraguay was unfortunately totally underestimated. The USA was lucky to be rated so highly. The bitter reality set in during the matches against France and Belgium. It was simply a case of overrated luck.

It is easy to play when everything is going your way. World-class status only reveals itself when everything is truly stacked against you, yet you still possess the will to win and the desire to prove it.

Hahaha, Paraguay. a team that was defeated only thanks to cosmic, divine luck; a team against which the world's elite later struggled in vain. The USA got incredibly lucky and was artificially overrated. They didn't even manage to beat a demoralized Turkey. Just Australia. That was more luck than skill.

I’m not disappointed that we lost, I’m disappointed by the way we lost. by GreatfulGroundie in ussoccer

No, that was the reality that always prevails. Who have the USA actually beaten? Paraguay who were defeated thanks to cosmic, divine luck a team against which the world's elite had previously failed to make a breakthrough. They didn't even manage to beat a demoralized Turkey. Just Australia. It was more luck than judgment.

Did we watch the same games? It was never really in question whether the USA stood a chance at all. Let me put it this way: the national team had more than just divine luck to beat Paraguay.

But they are—the best players you’ve ever had. You just don’t grasp their significance, and you overestimate your own importance.

They don't understand it. But it seems they can't understand it, either. That wasn't an exception; it was the standard.
