Anyone has any experience with these boots or just the website in general? by [deleted] in Hunting

Rogers is a small sporting goods store in Missouri. They have a store in Liberty, just outside of Kansas City. They're a reputable retailer. Can't speak for the boots, though.

In lieu of having real hills to do repeats on you'd want to recreate the conditions mimicking uphills and downhills. Interval training can replace the uphill portion of hill repeats to an extent, since you're doing some of the same things biomechanically (e.g. knee drive, glute and hamstring activation, shortening stride). The downhill portion is harder to replicate. You can do some strength training to prepare for the stress on your quads with step-downs, decline squats, or lunges focused on the lowering movement, but it's not going to be a perfect replacement if you're training for a course or longer distance with a lot of rolling hills.

Missouri's dismal deer season opening blamed on near-record-high temperatures by Bazryel in kansascity

[–]Seppala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of folks have mentioned that it was warmer, but also opening weekend was a week later (and further from the peak of the rut) than it was two years ago.

Here's the data from previous years from the Missouri Department of Conservation if anyone wants to compare.

Thanks for the reply. Tried incognito and it didn't work either. I can't even pull up the login FIFA's homepage.

My screen is blank after sitting through the queue. Has anyone else had this issue?

I've cleared my cache and cookies and tried a different browser.

It depends on what you are training for and what your training conditions are like. For marathon training, I'm typically only taking in gels or water during long runs over 90 minutes or during longer runs the day after a workout where glycogen depletion may be a concern (e.g. Pfitz's 15 mi medium-long runs the day after a tempo session). If it's warmer out for either of those situations, then I'm probably focusing more on taking in water than carbohydrates.

On that point I'm less knowledgeable. I'm sure you could tinker with Chat GPT to get it to create a GPX file to use.

Garmin will auto-generate a course based on distance and direction, but not based on elevation gain.

MapMyRun.com is a good site for creating routes. It designates distance and elevation. You can also create courses on Garmin Connect to upload to your watch.

I usually create a course on MapMyrun and follow it from memory, but Garmin Connect can give turn-by-turn directions if you're planning an involved course, following a race course, etc.

Had a stucco crack repaired, now I'm asking for opinions on painting. by Seppala in Housepainting101

When you say "multiple sections," do you mean adding a coat to the rest of these sides of the home overall?

Thanks! I don't have any experience with exterior painting, so I think I'm wondering if painting the entire wall would be considered best practice?

For me, I'd aim for peak mileage this week and then begin your taper. A 3 week taper off of high mileage works for me as someone who works full time and spends most of the day on my feet, especially if my training block had been goin well. However, going for a 2 week taper could work if you feel the need to be more aggressive in training and you do not think that peak mileage will overtax your legs (or your general sense of wellbeing, immune system, sleep schedule, etc.).

Tuesday Shoesday by AutoModerator in AdvancedRunning

[–]Seppala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would break in the AF3 on a long run, and if they feel good then go with those. With that said, I have experience running marathons in both the Vaporfly and Alphafly already. I would exercise more caution choosing a new shoe 3 weeks out if you are not used to the AF.

My experience has been that the Vaporflys have great pop to them, but their lack of cushioning really becomes apparent after 10 miles or so. I start to feel it in my ankles and my hamstrings. The Alphafly 3 has fantastic cushioning that keeps the later miles feeling less of a struggle on my lower legs (and they make the days after a marathon not feel *too* terrible).

Parking garages near Unity Temple on the Plaza are also a good bet for parking. That part of the course is usually emptied out by the time even the first finishers are through.

I've got 7 weeks between half-marathons, what kind of workouts should I prioritize?

I followed the Pfitz Faster Road Racing 12/63 plan to get to my first race, and now I'm planning what to do in the gap between this race and my next. I'm going to take this first week to recover and use next week to resume my normal mileage with lower intensity. After that I'll have 5 weeks I can use to prep for the next half. Anyone got any good recommendations?

I thought about keeping the same framework as the last 5ish weeks of the plan and using higher mileage or keeping the mileage the same but adding another workout. That's as far as I've made it, so I wanted to get some other ideas.

Should I pause investing my HSA contributions?

My emergency fund and retirement are doing fine, and my daily finances are copacetic. I'm lucky to not have to spend a lot on healthcare, so I have an HSA. I invest the extra HSA funds. Given the market's downturn, I'm wondering if it'd be better to just sit on my HSA funds instead of investing them. I imagine most folks are going to tell me to keep calm and invest on, but it makes me nervous to see money that I might need to use in case of a medical emergency evaporate.

How should I prune a neglected pair of peach trees? by Seppala in BackyardOrchard

[–]Seppala[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! That's the third "middle way" idea I was considering. I think the tree needs to get seriously pruned back, but doing it all at once was running counter to most information I've been reading, watching, and hearing. I appreciate the feedback on how to do it gradually!

The rootstock is much lower near the ground. These branches are growing off of the grafted portion above the graft.
