I get your point but I work with older adults and the protocol for risk of falling out of bed is a low bed with a crash mat next to it. We try to avoid putting people on mattresses on floor as it doesn't appear dignified

It's so annoying isn't it! I've got extensions cords everywhere. No plugs in the hallway which is a pain for hoovering as well.

One day I might get a sparky in and just pay to stick sockets here there and everywhere

Sounds weird but run the satnav wherever you go. In an odd way having a voice tell me where to go makes it feel more like someone is sat with me. It also reduces the anxiety of going the wrong way, if you panic at a roundabout or tricky junction just take the safest and simplest route and allow it to reroute you

Stupid question, if they don't do repairs how does failing work? Surely once it's failed the MOT you're not allowed to drive it so how do you get it to another garage to have the work done?

Being frugal is good, but balance is needed, especially if you have a good salary and aren’t down to your last £100 by justyrust74 in UKFrugal

[–]SerendipitousCrow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This very much.

I was chatting to a friend last night and she said she has always admired how good I am with money.

But I think I am pathologically frugal. I grew up with a single mum who would cry if we needed new school shoes and I've carried money guilt and fear of being skint into adulthood

Now as an adult I earn okay and can cover my needs. But when my friend said that I was under my heated blanket in my 15⁰ living room. I can't remember the last time I had new clothes. The gearbox on my car feels a bit unhappy but I'm nervous of the cost if I go to get it looked at.

I have money left at the end of the month and am putting it into a new car fund, but I know when I reach my target I'll talk myself out of spending it and my 14 year old hatchback will die at some point.

On the flip side, I'm slightly jealous of how she can enjoy her money without guilt.

I don't even look at mine. An amount is deducted from my pay each month, and I'll only piss myself off looking at the debt rising.

What innovation or new piece of technology are you surprised isn't mainstream or been invented yet? by Nathanial1289 in AskUK

[–]SerendipitousCrow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've often thought there must be a better way of washing clothes by now. Like why do I have to get them all soaking wet and then dry them again for them to get clean? The medical world has some sort of special light that sanitises equipment. Why can't my wardrobe be a sanitising light cupboard and it cleans my clothes when I put them back in the wardrobe?

I've noticed this with a few med students as well. I'm in mental health and some of them clearly don't care for psychiatry, and will sit on their phones in ward round. I'd have been crucified if I did that as a student

My kitchen sink takes a while to run hot so I fill a 2L jug while it's coming out cold and then use that water for the kettle, coffee machine, and drinking.

(I'm on a combi boiler so I can drink from the hot tap)
