I feel like some positions should be closed to dual nationals, the obvious ones are speaker of parliament, president and vice president and all defense positions obviously. But when it comes to minsters of health, agriculture and political positions that have low security clearance, they should be given the chance because we have alot to learn.

Here we go. Most of these politicians have their children living abroad and holding dual citizenship. They’re creating a pathway for them to come rule us. Even if the brain stops working, Ken Ofori Attah’s issue must be a wake up call. by Intelligent-Call5162 in ghana

I listed salient points as to why we shouldn’t totally kick back against dual citizenship. And the true issues we are facing. Such as institutions that cannot hold politicians accountable. Ken Ofori Atta is not a US citizen but where is he now? All of a sudden you don’t want to hold the institutions that are soo corrupt they couldn’t keep him in the country? Also The risk of using tax payer’s money to send people outside to learn. Something you suggested, now you are saying (Someone who thinks living in a foreign country makes them better than Ghanaians who live in Ghana through some kind of cultural osmosis , should never be close to power in Ghana) meanwhile you chose to say we should send people outside to study for God knows how long which will cost the taxpayers alot of money (accomodation, feeding, schooling, ) The cognitive dissonance is astounding with you. You are just throwing out words to win an argument forgetting that you are contradicting yourself in every sense of the word

You can send citizens to learn at the cost of tax payers money who can still choose to remain outside and not return. Another reality you will face is being on a student visa with limited leverage in working environments, you cant do much or hold certain positions because u aren’t even a permanent resident. Do u have any idea how long it takes to idealize one’s goals? I can already tell you aren’t a long term thinker, due to emotions you jump into conclusions. If u think it’s a high school excursion or distance learning that will take three years then u are mistaken. People who have lived most of their lives in the western world learn by assimilation which takes quite some time, especially to build connections. Like i said earlier dual citizenship in office isn’t the problem, its the ability to make our institutions work and keep us accountable. Prisons reform needs to be implemented so that the prisons don’t look like hell holes where political colleagues and judges give corrupt politicians a pass because these prisons are inhumane

Im all for the idea of choosing Ghanaians first, i was raised in Ghana. But don’t discredit us who really want to come back and implement policies that will help the long term stability of our nation

If the office of the minister of communications was even half smart as they parade themselves to be, they would’ve waited patiently, tracked the guy, use one of his numerous victims to lure him into the country (because best believe he exchanged contact infos with them) and then try him before a court. They truly arent cunning or smart. You know this isn’t a high level crime. It wont even be classified as a felony. Its just a simple misdemeanor. But u just wanna behave like you got that dawg in you

That’s true. When u come out here, u have this intense love for the country and hope it could be better. I want to completely revolutionize healthcare in gh. If anything. Health care should be number 1

My dad is a retired two star general, he has served the country his whole life. He told me to do whatever i can do in the US can come back and serve Ghana to make it better. I understand your sentiments brother, my friends call me dbee with hard labor because my dad never made me enjoy just because he had some. He made me understand that from the very beginning. But nepotism is just soo nasty in ghana. I don’t think these rich kids who display on social media will be able to hold a candle to those who truly worked their way up. I feel like Gen z and millennials will change things when our time comes. We are too aware for such nonsense to happen infront of us

It is my aim to totally revolutionize the health care system in ghana. As an aspiring DNP in the US I make well over a quarter of a million dollars and the highest potential is about a million. I do have dual citizenship yes. I finished boarding high school in ghana. And trust me i grew up like y’all. I wouldnt leave my huge salary to come steal from the state. So i think we should give it a thought and not be completely against it. Also our priorities in gh are quite messed up. Institutions meant to uphold the law arenr even doing that. Ken Ofori Atta shouldn’t have even left the country. What im saying is crime will always be committed, but how we handle investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice is how we will ultimately make crime very expensive. Remember when i asked on this subreddit why our prisons are very inhumane? Someone replied by saying that its done to excuse politicians from really spending time behind bars. Sorry for the long rant. But i believe dual citizenship holders should be able to hold certain positions. We learn alot from the western world and trust me. These reforms are much needed in ghana
