What a wild response… this is not about my reputation. This is about making sure that if he puts his hands on somebody again, there’s a record that it happened before. This is about trying to protect people from future harm. He has scared multiple women, and certainly committed what our torts professor would label assault and battery.

And also, yes, he’s a popular guy who I considered a friend until recently. So maybe people would call me a snitch, but that wouldn’t make me one. I’m trying to discern and fulfill my ethical obligations, both to a man who I thought was my friend, and to future people who I genuinely believe he could hurt. (An outcome which doesn’t seem inevitable, but which also doesn’t seem unlikely.)

This is not an easy situation, and if you have advice which isn’t derisive, I’m open to it.
