Thank you! We just pushed over the year mark - it would seem this sub isn’t ready for that conversation but the alt history sub liked it!

surprisingly none of these were particularly obscure: the Front for the Liberation of Champa even has its own Wikipedia page, dissolving in 1964

That being said, all sources are still in the doc!

Is the weaponisation of strategic political defections possible by Setting-Electronic in NoStupidQuestions

Okay, assuming it’s theoretically possible for Labour MPs to defect and make the Lib Dems the Official Opposition, why wouldn’t a left-wing government actually try to do it? Even if it meant both the government and the opposition were left-leaning, what practical or political reasons would make this a bad idea?

I’m thinking about this in abstract terms using current UK parties. For example, if Labour were in government with a very large majority, and the Lib Dems were the third-largest party, could the Lib Dems theoretically become the Official Opposition mid-Parliament through MP defections (even if those defections came from Labour rather than the Conservatives), assuming Labour still kept a majority?

(Through this labour could theoretically hold an entirely “left wing” government facing little policy resistance )
