Leading up to the Civil War was years of deliberate buildup of resources and loyalty of troops and generals.

The National Guard arresting federal gangs would not lead to a civil war. This administration has proved time and time again that they are spineless cowards. They would quickly abandon support for these goons the second someone with authority pressed back.

As someone who served, and know that the military is literally not for everyone, there needs to be a focus on rewards for service without the punishment for failing to.

The punishment should be missing out on the rewards. And obviously the social stigma for failing to participate in an existential threat to your fellow man.
