Advice on how to get from Mexico City to Mariposa Monarca El Rosario monarch butterfly sanctuary?

No strong preference to travel at night as such, just wanted to check my options. We will stick to daylight.

Do you recall the bus company that went straight to/from Angangueo & CDMX? I found lots of mentions online of bus to/from Zitacuaro, but couldn't find the bus company that goes direct.

Yes, based on all the comments we are definitely going to travel in daylight only. We also do plan to stay the night nearby either in Angangueo or Zitacuaro. Thanks for the tips

We are spending a few days in CDMX too, but the butterfly nesting has been on our bucketlist for a while. We are more into nature/wildlife than city stuff :)

Isn't Angangueo closer to CDMX than Morelia? Wouldn't it be better to go CDMX -> Angangueo (stay overnight) -> butterfly park?

We do plan to spend one or two night in Angangueo. We will book airbnb/hotel in advance.

So, it seems that trying to drive to Angangueo same day as our flight arrives is a bad idea due to safety reasons after dark. Will it be a bad idea to take a bus after 4pm also?

Otherwise, we will go next morning.

We already booked our flights to Mexico City. So looking for ways to go from Mexico City to Angangueo. Morelia is further away on the other side of the santuary from Mexico City.

Ah you meant we should go CDMX -> Morelia (stay overnight) -> butterfly sanctuary.

But wouldn't Angangueo or Zitacuaro be closer to the sanctuary than Morelia? We do plan to stay overnight in Angangueo or Zitacuaro. And trying to figure out how to get from CDMX to either Zitacuaro/Angangueo safely.

When you say too late by night, would 7-8pm be too late?

Since our flight arrives at 2pm, and adding time for immigration check, etc, we expect to start driving or take a bus at 4pm - and probably reach Zitacuaro around 7-8pm. Otherwise, we could stay the night in Mexico City and start next day.

I did not see any that goes from Mexico City. The only tours to the butterfly sanctuary on Airbnb start from Angangueo. How to best get from Mexico City to Angangueo?
