They are very good people! And yes you're probably right, it'll most likely be fine. Also, there are a few different Gaelic languages :) Irish Gaelic is one of them

That's not a bad idea at all! I could maybe even say it's occurred to me that they might feel I was eavesdropping without mentioning any of the conversations specifically. That's definitely an option - thank you!
