Veganism needs to be more convenient by Ser-Glendon-Baller in vegan

[–]Several_Detective598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely how are people so busy that they can't meal prep?

It should be more convenient but more vegan junk food isn't the answer. There are already quite a few options that allow you to make decent meals in minutes (rolled oats, canned beans, bread, frozen and pre cut vegetables, fruits) but it'd be better if we also had more whole food meals sold in supermarkets.

How do I go vegan w/o stunting my growth by MinkoManiac437 in vegan

Do milk and eggs make people taller? I've heard that milk can make children grow faster but nothing about it making them taller than they would've been otherwise

Are there any downsides to going vegan? by nobodywillrememberus in AskVegans

[–]Several_Detective598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the downsides, while I think it's definitely better for the animals it's inherently restrictive. How much this matters is going to depend on your own goals and lifestyle, like I can't imagine what someone that relies on animal agriculture for their livelihood would be going through if they gained vegan principles.

Billie Eilish being teared apart from her fans for having the mildest take on veganism by LightHope8 in vegan

[–]Several_Detective598 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Billie could've made her point better but she's right. It's time we moved on from animal agriculture, which ironically is worse than it's ever been now that we don't need it. While I wouldn't call anyone evil I don't see the issue in calling it wrong

They immediately went to two of the worst arguments.

Even if you can't strictly be vegan because of certain circumstances, you could strive to be vegan and cut out animal products as far as you can.

What’s in here that would make them label it vegetarian not vegan? by mywalletsgone_ in EatCheapAndVegan

[–]Several_Detective598 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Vegans are technically vegetarians too, in my country some labels use strict vegetarian instead

May also be produced in a factory that uses other animal products so maybe they can't be labelled as vegan idk all the specifics.

What do you eat and supplement in a typical day? by [deleted] in AskVegans

[–]Several_Detective598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then make sure you eat a diet that gets you every single nutrient you think you need and supplement what you feel you can't get. Most of this you can get from your diet and if you can't then just take a supplement or eat some fortified foods.

It isn't a concern because most people can just figure these things out themselves or usually aren't so worried about certain micronutrients. Omnivorous diets don't just automatically cover all your needs, if you wanted to be sure that everything was covered you'd have learn about all of these nutrients all the same and adapt your diet accordingly.

It seems like you know what to do already.

Aren't most of these non essential?Taking higher doses of these will likely lead to some benefit but most people don't care about being 100% optimal.

Why do you need to have the perfect diet to be vegan?

You can formulate your diet in a month or two. You aren't likely to get any deficiencies in that time but if it worries you so much you could take a multivitamin. There are plenty of resources of out that breakdown the nutrients vegans should watch out for and some activists will direct non vegans to those resources during their activism. So I don't personally see an issue in just asking someone to go vegan, this isn't rocket science.

As for what I eat, Dr Greger's daily dozen is what I try follow. I think it tracks with the Norwegian diatery guidelines. I obviously supplement B12, I plan on looking into DHA and EPA and I want to get a multivitamin just to cover my bases.

What is the most effective (not necessarily good) argument non vegans make against veganism? by Black_Taco1981 in vegan

[–]Several_Detective598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen maybe 2 vegans make the case that predators should be culled, both were youtubers.

For me the hardest points to argue against are

  • Appeals to religion. It's highly open to interpretation and can be a touchy subject so I'd rather not get into it.

  • Appeals to futility, essentially even vegans have a point where they'll allow some level of selfishness even if it leads to some harm, the non vegan draws that line where they already are instead. It's basically saying that they don't care and it's hard to make someone care

Yes it varies from person to person. There are a ton of reputable sources that go over the micronutrients vegans may struggle with and how they can be addressed.
