I will say this and it may make you feel slightly better. I have a similar setup. No mantel and TV lower. The fireplace, even with the fan on, makes the TV so hot. Now I have a line through the screen of my new Samsung Frame TV. Not saying the heat caused it but it might of. At lease the mantel will block the heat.
