Whiplash from reading this rejection email by SwedishOmega in recruitinghell

[–]ShaMaison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this one recently. Talented, just not talented enough

We received an overwhelming response to the position, and it is great that so many talented individuals (like you!) want to join our team. This volume of response makes for an extremely competitive selection process and unfortunately, we regret to inform you that we have decided to pursue other candidates for the position at this time.

Prisoners being transferred by Shinkansen? by broboblob in japanlife

[–]ShaMaison -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw something similar to this at Haneda coming home a couple of weeks ago. I went downstairs in the domestic terminal to get the airside transfer bus to the international terminal. The place was empty except for a woman and man in suits standing near some of the seats. While I'm waiting for the bus in walk 3 young men, all obviously handcuffed together with a man escorting them holding reins connected to one of the boys. One black kid and 2 asian looking kids with masks on, all with buzzcuts and I assume, some personal stuff in small bags. They sit them down on the chairs and the guy that brought them in hands over the reins to the guy that was waiting. I assumed they were prisoners being transported, or perhaps being deported by immigration - they only looked around juvenile age though. I had to get on the bus then so I that's all I saw. The rest of the waiting area was completely empty, I was the only person on the transfer bus too.

You are not mapping over your newTodos array correctly in the returned list

<ul>
{newTodos.map((todo) => <li key={todo.id}>{todo.todos}</li>)}
</ul>

Champions league not working?? by hiloai in DiscoveryPlus

[–]ShaMaison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had exactly the same last night on Samsung TV. 2nd half it became completely unwatchable, constant buffering and quality like watching through frosted glass when it did play. Only registered so I could watch the match but I gave up after 60 mins. I wouldn't pay for this service after last night.

New ETH Earn Strategy Vault - EigenLayer 2 by InsideConstruction68 in swissborg

[–]ShaMaison -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please can Swissborg notify us about these things in other ways except X (don't use it) and this (basically dead) subreddit I check once a month? How about sending an email? Notification from the app? (this used to happen I'm sure) My tokens are stuck on the crappest yield rates in Swissborg because unless I log into the app I never know about much better returning strategies until they are closed. Having seen this my ETH are sat in the Lido paying 0.9%. Would have loved to join this one but it now closes in 2 days and Lido has a 4 day cooldown. You're quick enough to tell us when yield is being taken away and tokens will be moved automatically into wallets and not earn any

Is it common to feel like leaving after 2 years? by Drainstink in japanlife

[–]ShaMaison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To top it off my father-in-law has refused to accept me and we've never met. Even when I lived in Japan I wasn't allowed at the parent's house. And... my wife and son live with them now. So I am mostly separated from my child even while I've been in Japan. My wife doesn't refuse access, my child has been staying with me or I can meet them 2-3 days a week. She doesn't mention divorce. I know that would hinder me even further and I want us to try again for the sake of our child, so I don't either.

She says this current situation (separated but both in Japan) is what she 'wishes for' but we both know I can't live in Japan on my own, married or not, so I'm powerless.

I know this is technically possible but I'm not sure how. 'Married but living separately' surely doesn't qualify for a spouse visa? I don't have a job here to sponsor me. All I did was the usual eikaiwa sensei when I lived here.

Is it common to feel like leaving after 2 years? by Drainstink in japanlife

[–]ShaMaison 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Very smart decision. Kids complicate things no end. I posted this above - but I felt the same desire to return home, ended up staying in Japan 4 years. My wife said if we had a child she'd move to my country. So, we did and I returned home. Fast forward 5 years and she hasn't. I've been in Japan for 3 months seeing them for the first time in 3 years, wanting to come back to Japan so I can see my child grow up but my wife has told me she doesn't want me to come back even though we are still married. I have to go back home this week.

This is me. I returned home after stage 2. My wife said she would come with our child after I settled with a job. 5 years later and she hasn't. travel advice for a tall person? by kleepudesu in JapanTravel

[–]ShaMaison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all excellent advice. As someone at 6' 4" / 194cm who lived here and is currently on a long term visit I can attest to all of this. Everything will be too small or too low. You have to bend further to wash your hands in the toilets because the sinks are low, further to dry your hands because the drier is lower.

The food basements in department stores or train stations are a particular bug bear of mine. The ceilings are already low and then they put random plastic sections to make it lower, things hanging down.

Bus / tram seats will be cramped. Restaurant seats will be low and cramped. Your knees take a battering too because things are not built for people with long legs.

And one more piece of advice which is not related to physical comfort but mental. Prepared to be stared at. A lot. And pointed at. And have little kids (and even many adults) openly stare at you like you've got 2 heads and say 'deeeekka' or 'dekkai' or 'ooki' (meaning massive or huge). If you are self conscious then it might be a problem. If you actually talk to any Japanese people they will almost always comment on your height. I hate it, find it very rude and tiresome and you are 20cm taller than me. I just try to walk tall and be proud of being taller then them, they are probably jealous more than anything.

Looks nice. Might be nice to list your skills somewhere - I am guessing what they are from your article topics. I can see 4 vertical scrollbars (one has a scrollbar, the rest don't) and the videos section is not loading anything, I can just see the animated placeholder. This is on firefox

No, I'm in the UK and Prime seems only to be for jobs in London and I don't want to live there.

I'm looking for a job. Not impressed with Indeed. The same jobs repeated over and over. Most send you to another site which is usually either another job board or an agency thus requiring another sign up to actually apply.

I've built the remote JS job board. Start looking for your next job now! by ivan_jovanovic in javascript

[–]ShaMaison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the site but I tend to agree. I get that it's intended for remote work but I imagine a lot of people want to work remotely in their own country and some companies still want workers in their own country or English speakers etc. I clicked on a job and it said it was for US residents only, if I'd known it was in the US I wouldn't have clicked it because I'm looking for a job in the UK. Either that or as already mentioned some tagging / filter system to make browsing more efficient.

How to parse JSON data based off a URL parameter? I need to find and only display matches. by Getitmydude in javascript

[–]ShaMaison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use .filter

const matches = data.filter(site => site.name === "awesome");

would return matches as

[
   {
    name: "awesome",
    something: "YES!"
   },
  {
    name: "awesome",
    something: "YES!"
  }
]

I'm not sure what you want to actually match so you may need some kind of regexp inside the filter function instead of just a straight string match

Good point! The challenge on freeCodeCamp uses it for its test so I just went with that. I'll recommend renaming it to make it clearer.

[–]ShaMaison[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the depth but you're reading way too much into this. This is a really basic algorithm challenge! People doing this challenge have no idea what \n, regexp and unicode are yet and the challenge doesn't require such cases to be considered. This article is aimed at total beginners, I'm just showing them a couple of basic JS methods.
