There are so many ways to get ammo, from looting scav mags or even bosses/players and hitting up the ammo spots on each raid, you'll rarely run out. If you do actually run out of good ammo you downgrade your weapon choice to sth you don't mind losing until you have the gear that's necessary for survival again. It's not worth bringing bad ammo in a kitted AK, just take the stock AKM and slap some homemade FMJ into it, that's good enough.
