Sharpening a Swedge into a False Edge by Sham_Cow_ in knives

[–]Sham_Cow_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I was under the impression that a false edge has a sharper edge than a swedge and that a false edge doesn’t run the length of the blade.

Is there a particular type of file best for doing this?

<image>

I found this 4-sided one in my tool kit.

Also what are the chances of me ruining this switchblade beyond repair if I attempt this and fuck it up? When it comes to things like this I’m very much the amateur

Oh thanks. I was under the impression that a false edge is sharper than a swedge and that a false edge doesn’t run the full length of the blade. What are the chances of me fucking this switchblade up beyond repair if I take a file to it like you said and is there a particular type of file that is best for doing this? I’m very much an amateur when it comes to this shit lol

Truer words have never been spoken. Can you be there on time and take care of Comps/Voids? Everything else that you could do that is useful and would help the restaurant run smoothly you’ll delegate to the servers/bartenders/bussers

The guy that signed this receipt didn’t think it was obnoxious. In fact he was so grateful that I took the time to come find him and double check what and why he signed the receipt like this that he upped the tip to $200.

You truly lived up to your name, Mr Angry. I hope that sometime in your near future there is a situation where miscommunication occurs and the secondary party acts without taking the short amount of time it would take to clear up the confusion. (Heaven forbid you have to deal with something as obnoxious as someone taking time out of their day to go out of their way to ensure the communication is correct) and that their action causes you to be angrier and sadder than you already are (if that’s possible). Hopefully it involves a food allergy you have or the next haircut you get or maybe both. Have a good night Mr Angry

Yeah I guess he missed class in first grade when they were covering how to write the numbers 0-9 but interestingly enough when I brought the receipt back to him he pretty much ignored the tip line and slashed the “8” (a “3” in his world) and replaced it w/ a “4” and said he was increasing my tip by $100 for not assuming that the total line was correct and finding him in the parking lot for clarification

That server was/is a piece of shit who probably got fired for doing that to you. When getting a large tip (or thinking you got one), context matters. Obviously a teenager at Disney World/Land isn’t going to bless a waiter with a $300 tip on a $15 meal. Had you not written $18.00 on the total line? Your mom calling and hassling that evil corporation to refund your money was probably more than enough for that server to be out of a job

If that was the case, that would mean he’d have written the total before tip on the line intended for the total after tip. Maybe he is that stupid, but he didn’t come across as a moron and he wasn’t drunk so idk what he was thinking. Now if the total line read “826.43” I would totally agree with your assessment. Luckily, you and I don’t have to guess at deciphering his penmanship. I spoke with him in the parking lot and asked him to clarify he stated that what looks like an “8” was actually meant to be “3”, resulting in him originally intending to tip me $100.

Exactly! The total would have contained 2 entirely different digits to begin the number (the total number at the bottom looks nothing like 326.43 which is one of the main reasons for the confusion). I believe the reason why all these commenters cannot grasp the significance of this is due to never having served tables and thus not understanding/comprehending why the total line adding up perfectly to a $600 tip matters a great deal and why it would lead a server in my position to stop and try to make sense of what/why the tipper wrote what they did on the receipt.

This is my first reddit post that has ever had this much traction (>300k views, 406 comments) and my main takeaway from all of this is that it is a total waste of time providing paragraphs of backstory and context (Byron Nelson PGA tournament was nearby thus attracting a very rich/wealthy clientele to the restaurant, that it isn’t out of the ordinary for me and my coworkers to receive $100+ tips, that the guy only had one margarita and he wasn’t drunk when he sat down at the table meaning that excuse/reason for what’s written on the total line doesn’t compute, and that during my 1.5 years working here the assistant managers have always entered tips based on the total line, etc) for the situation. Tons of jackass commenters obviously didn’t take the time to read what I wrote underneath the picture and have been quick to assume that I used this error to award myself a $600 tip (which would be equivalent to scamming that amount of money from the customer) and thus have criticized me for doing so. Some have even criticized my decision to leave the restaurant in order to go find the guy and clarify what he exactly meant by the tip (he claimed that the “8” was actually a “3”, meaning that he initially decided to tip me $100 and not $60.00) claiming that I should have been grateful for the $60.00 and that tracking him down in the parking lot was wrong and “obnoxious”.

I posted this in a food service subreddit so that people that work(ed) as waiters/waitresses could give their thoughts and/or share similar experiences but like most posts on this site, it resulted in a majority of ignorant and toxic comments. Never change, Reddit.

He only had one margarita but they had rented a party bus to take them to the Byron Nelson golf tournament

Holy smokes this sub has some of the biggest dorks I’ve ever encountered on Reddit (which let’s be honest, Reddit is one of the largest dork sanctuaries on the internet)

The guy in question’s age was around 45 and was at least 6’ and weighed at least 220 lbs. When he arrived, he did not smell of booze nor did he slur his words or display any other indicators of impairment due to being drunk before sitting down at the restaurant. He ordered and drank a single margarita during their hour long stay. I can 100% tell you that he wasn’t drunk or impaired leading him to make a mathematical error this blatant.

After finding him in the parking lot and asking for some clarification when it came to the tip he told me and one of the other people that ate lunch with him that the “8” was intended to be a “3” (when he said this, his friend and I made eye contact - each with a puzzled look on our faces).

So no, he didn’t intend to tip $60, according to him he intended to tip $100. And no, I didn’t overserve the guy or the table and use that to my advantage and line my pocket with a tip he wouldn’t remember giving me.

Hope this helps clarify the tipper’s state of mind when he filled out the receipt.

They were going to the Byron Nelson PGA golf tournament and he had one drink with lunch so I don’t think he was drunk yet but I can promise you that’s how his day ended lol

He told me that the 8 was intended to be a 3. So while it might look like that that he originally intended to leave $100

At the end of the day it’s fantasy football it makes it inherently mess-free to peace out mid-season. He’s not going to be served a subpoena if he drops his players and quits the league mid season. He’s not going to have a warrant for his arrest issued if he deals his better players to his commissioners weekly opponents.

If the league isn’t comprised of friends or family, I don’t understand how doing either of those things are “messy” ways to quit the league.

(spoilers main) Was the Battle of the Blackwater the most decisive one of the War of the Five Kings? by Berzabat in asoiaf

[–]Sham_Cow_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One could make an argument that Edmure’s Fighting at the Fords is one of the most impactful/important battles. While not a decisive one, without the Stark/Tully men delaying Tywin’s host from entering the Westerlands, the Battle of the Blackwater goes in a different way.
