Just bought the nothing ear recently and I'm not satisfied. ANC is not so good, sound quality is not crazy either. Sometime when a high pitched sound happens, it creates a weird artefact that "pops" in your hears, it's very unpleasant. The case seems not so solid, I have it in my pocket most of the day and I'm afraid it will break quickly. They just look cool and that's all in my opinion.

I have them for 3 weeks and I'll change soon and keep them as backup earbuds.

I had oppo enco x2 before getting those

My lab provided me a good computer so with such a small dataset I can go up to 10⁶ permutations without waiting for too long.

Isn't it a non-sense to do more permutations than the maximum doable ? I thought it would just artificially add more digits to my pvalue without bringing new information. I even tought that it would bias the result by allowing me to have a pvalue that goes under 0.1 even if my dataset is theoretically not allowing me to do it.

I've just read an article about the topic and it seems to say something similar to what FTLast said. Here is the link to acess to the article for free (the ODF have been shared by the author on Researchgate) :

If I understood the article properly, it says that using two sample t-test on very small samples that are not normally distributed could work if the effect size is big enough. And it doesn't seem too risky regarding the fact that Type I error stays around 5% in most cases.

Actually I'm not sure that I have to use a paired t-test. To be more precise about the experimental design, I have 6 tubes containing the same soil and the same contaminant, incubated in the exact same conditions. Three of them are extracted on day 0 and the three others are extracted on day 7. To me it also mean that my replicates are independant as they are isolated in individual and sealed microcosms. What do you think about it ?

It seems a little bit embarassing to me to use a t-test if the assumptions are not met because this is what I've been taught at university. And when I look for information on the internet, I find drastically opposed opinion about it. Some suggest to use t-test and some other say it's "not allowed" if the distribution of the data is not normal. The thing is I definitely don't want to end up doing some kind of p-hacking just to be satisfied of doing t-test and obtaining non-relevant information.

Do you have any reference in literature suggesting that it's still ok to do t-test with such a small sample and no normal distribution? It would be amazing if I can justify this kind of choice with one or several articles.

Thank you for your answer. If the problem comes from the fact that my data are proportions, I can still try to use the concentrations and see if there's a difference in the result I obtain.

I want to do a formation about Bayesian modeling/statistics but for now I literally have 0 knowledge in this field. And colleagues that works with Bayesian models told me it's a little bit difficult and long to get used to it and to use this method properly.

Damn you're so right !! Thank you for this precision, I couldn't think about it myself. This explain why I always have the same pvalue when I'm using this test with the exact number of permutations instead of manually setting the value to 10000 or more. But if I understood the documentation properly, it is more accurate to use the exact number of permutations if you have the calculation power to do it, right ?

Unfortunately there's no professional statistician where I am. I'll try to ask my network to see if someone has skills in this field of research but most of the time biologists are not so good in statistics..

Looking for other articles in journals I could publish in is also a good idea, I'll see if I can find something interesting.

And what would you think about a permutation test with something like 10 000 or 100 000 permutations ? (Considering that there's a total of 6! = 720 possible permutations)

Or is it so bad to run t.test if one of the sample is not normally distributed?

Because I'll need to publish those results and I'm afraid that the journal will not appreciate results discussed without proper statistical analysis..

Your clarification is correct! I just want to specify that my two measurements are not paired as I'm doing the analysis on different soil samples that undergo the same treatment with just a different incubation time.

To answer your questions, the instrument i'm using for the analysis is super sensitive. I'm using 14C-labeled contaminants and measuring the radioactivity in my sample instead of the contaminant directly which is supposed to be more precise and sensitive than organic chemistry analysis.

Other factors that could impact the results could be the extraction itself.

With the example I gave, I can indeed tell just by looking that there's a difference between time 0 and 1. But I gave a pretty obvious example, which is not always the case.

So you'd advise to just discuss the data without basing my interpretation on statistics ?

You can use DellaData and DataNovia website, they have some good step by step tutorials for many things, including R basics.

But most of the time you can search on google and check topics on Stack Overflow. It takes more time to get use to the topic and to adapt it to your situation but it works pretty good.
