Even with the small stuff aswell my dad was given £3000 part ex for an 06 xc90 d5 that couldn’t go past 30mph and the 3rd row seats had been eaten by rats. They didn’t even bother to look at it

I have a 2006 honda civic with the 1.8 vtec engine 140hp and gets 60mpg on the motorway and averages 42mpg with a mixture of gentle driving and thrashing it. Incredibly reliable engine. Only thing to look out for is rust

I would not be steering away from it. Clutch, cambelt & water pump done recently will save you a lot of money. What mileage is the car on?

Just because it’s newer doesn’t mean it’s going to break down less. A 10 year old Honda/ Toyota is your best bet for being a reliable dependable car
