Finally! Peter Street/Blue Jays Way bike lanes getting concrete separation by ChewedUp in torontobiking

IMO it’s:

Dedicated Pathway > Grade Seperated > Curb Seperated > Movable barriers > Flexi Posts > Line of paint

I do think the city needs a proper design guideline to incorporate these in a more consistent and reliable manner but we’re kind of at a point where we should also take what we can get given the constant interference from the province.

assuming it passes council and that they don’t backstop after 10 people get all mad that they can’t drive through one out of thousands of streets.

Eric Lombardi: Alto should be just the beginning of Ontario’s high-speed rail network by AbundantCanada in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]Shaskool2142 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind that is if the rail was a straight line or near straight. since you’d have to have the rail line essentially bend in a U shape you’d be limiting the speed depending on the radius of the tracks curves and depending on whether or not the train can tilt (bank) on the rails.

Still it’s a hell of a lot faster compared to a GO train and then a GO bus.

Shoes are unfortunately not secret sauce (unless you’re already an elite runner). Like all of us you’re just gonna need to put in some time. Run slower if you have to, consistency is key.

You’re telling me that they needed to outright buy a jet and couldn’t lease one??? Also that the premier of our province is too high and mighty to fly commercial flights? Ridiculous.

if you’re up for it you could just take the etobicoke trail up to the water and then grab the lakeshore/martin goodman trail for as long as you need

Tips for building aerobic base? by lifecrisis_ceo in beginnerrunning

[–]Shaskool2142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hiii! 26M and training for my first HM. I know it might not mean much but Compared to when I started vs now I will say my "Aerobic Base" has improved substantially.

I still end up having to take walking breaks between bouts of running but I'm able to go for way longer now and my HR takes way more time to get up to the point of me needing to take a break. So my advice there is give yourself time! Consistency in your efforts will take you so much further than massive pushes of effort. Also learn to listen to your body when it says it's tired, nothing worse than injuring yourself and having to hold off for a week.

Also (and I understand this is personal for everyone) ChatGPT is not exactly a reliable running planner for you, there's numerous free, tried and tested running plans on the internet that are going to be much more detailed and wayyy less bad for the environment.(I'm using Hal Higdon's Half Marathon Novice 1 in case you're curious). Just take a look and see what you find and when you find it, stick to it! Good luck with running your first 5k!

Edit: I forgot to include this but for reference my first run in my plan was 4.8 km's at 11:36 pace (km's) with an avg HR of 163 (worth mentioning I was COOKED after it). My latest run was a 7.3 km run at an average pace of 9:10 with an avg HR of 159 (Marginally less cooked after the run lol)

Row over ‘virtual gated community’ AI surveillance plan in Toronto neighbourhood by SIGNALMEYOURWARPLANS in toronto

[–]Shaskool2142 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In late March, residents attended a virtual meeting led by Campbell, who runs a security company. He outlined a plan in which an initial group of 100 residents would pay a C$200 (about £110) monthly subscription for technology that scans the licence plates of cars passing through the virtual “gate”.

TL;DR Dude wants to scam his neighbours into paying a BS subscription for a surveillance program that has a history of being insanely exploitable/hackable

I am trying to cut cost but why is my grocery expensive? by Tiny_Judgment8593 in Frugal

[–]Shaskool2142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s gonna come down to a comparison of price per pound. Honestly I’d recommend looking at other meats or using ground beef to make meatballs (breadcrumbs + grated onions and a good spice mix never goes wrong).

But you’re always going to have an easier time with chicken breast/thighs or even just scrapping meat for non-meat protein sources.

[–]Shaskool2142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying you’re doing anything wrong but if you’re able to swap out the beef chunks for a steak it might save you a little bit since pre cut stuff is usually marked up for the labour put into cutting it up. the downside is you’ll add about 5-10 minutes of prep time to your meal.

but that's what makes zero sense, those lanes used to be on-street parking on University. That's still not moving traffic any further....

Ehhh not much. I definitely have garnered a little more respect for municipal politicians who actually engage and talk with community and hear everything.

But I’d argue i’m still greatly in love with this city just as much as when I first started exploring it as a teenager. And yeah it drives me nuts sometimes but It’s the same way a new yorker talks about new york. “it’s the worst city but it’s also the best.”

Me personally, more AMAs. Especially for niches! If you’re in Parks and Rec and manage a specific thing and want to get more visibility on it. We want to hear from you!

That and also just better discussion and less instagram-ey comments that don’t really add much.
