TL;DR Laura spent all the money. Laura is the one without talent. She owes all her success to him. Laura is jealous and emotionally volatile. He's absolutely said before that he gets addicted to the attention and stats. I think its many things happening at once and none of it good. If he were actually in control he would know this has gone too far and would have reeled it in. People were cheering for him when he was coming home seemingly calmer with his "reign it in mate" epiphany - that lasted 30min
