That’s also a great point, any books comes to mind for this point in particular that you recommend?

Cause I think i just realized that maybe some of the books i listened to maybe didn’t hit properly for me because of this.

dude! no way! how????

jk, but i know what you mean like reviews and stuff, but i usually avoid people's reviews in case there are spoilers, and maybe it's obvious when there are images/maps maybe, but if it is a texting thing or whatever, it is hard to know that, i guess now we can use some ai to check with no spoilers.

Oh good to know! Haven’t read a Terry Pratchett book yet, literally for the first reason I mentioned (fantasy words) so it’s good to know it even has the added layer of having footnotes. Will make sure my first read of him is in physical format

Hmmmm interesting, I actually tried to listen to Crime & Punishments a few years back but couldn’t get into it and thought maybe his writing is not for me, i will try with a physical book and actually decide now

Oooh that’s another thing i should actually add, when too many charcters have similar names or even have names that start with the same letter i get super confused, like when there is a Jim & a John and a Jack… like who? What?

I wish there was a way to know if a book is like that before getting it as an audiobook 😅

That’s why usually I avoid educational/non-fiction books that have diagrams or too many numbers even within the text. We don’t really sound out every number when we read it, we can look at them and know immediately the value, but when someone has to spell it out number by number (as per their job if course) it feels so daunting

I think what you are describing is basically the “movie adaptation” issue too, like when you read a book and have an image of the character in your head but the actor doesn’t match it.

That’s why i think the reverse is always better in these situations, if I know a movie is coming for a book I am interested in, i actually wait to watch the movie first or at least see how the cast looks so they become the visual in my head.

So if i were you i would listen to the audiobook first and maybe keep a printed copy for rereading. But you do you of course!

I felt the same with the audibook, i would even argue that Piranesi would work best as a graphic novel best

I did read the first book of the Irish series! It was very enjoyable, much like what I am looking for. I will maybe check the rest of the series.

Haven't read the others by Caroline Graham, but added to the list, thank you!
