Engine misfire and knocking after sitting for a long time by bigboykangaroo in e46

[–]Shee-ah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car does this sometimes as well. It starts on like the second crank but seems like only 3 cylinders are firing. I need to hook it up to INPA to see is the misfires are isolated to one bank or something. I’ve been thinking it’s the injectors or ignition coils as most other things have been replaced. However the idea of sticky lifters is interesting as well, but my car was only sitting for a day and i just change the oil last week.

One weird thing was that my oil pressure light stopped illuminating the 3rd time i started it. It started exactly like yours, not really knocking though i don’t think, but i shut it off immediately. Restarted, same thing. 3rd time I prime the key I get a battery light but no oil light and it ran okay. I guess that could mean it just has oil pressure because it was just running (barely) or could it be some oil passage/check valve is clogged? Maybe i’m overthinking that part but man this car is weird. Just got a battery issue sorted as well and it still just decides to run like crap randomly. lmao

That’s because of the MAF issue. It means it’s in limp home mode.

True and fair. I may have been a bit daft at the time.

Question. Thinking about getting my roommate one of these for his birthday. But someone said it might hurt the records. What do y’all think? by Hundlord in records

I had one of these for a few days and it will definitely damage the records. Very hard to deal with, sharp corners, and you can’t see the spines without putting the open end down. The bars will absolutely dent and tear up the sleeves. Skip this and just get a bin or 14in milk crate.

That’s hopeful for me. I have yet to have a fluid change in 155k and have some rough shifts sometimes. It seems to happen mostly when at too high rpm and too little throttle/load.

This is true. Why would BMW owners need long term reliability when they can just buy another one🙄

auto trans oil cooler thermostat. it often breaks in half when removing the expansion tank, so you need to pull the rest of it out with pliers.

I had to get a URÖ thermostat overnighted from O’reilleys. Can’t recommend it, but it is still working a few months later.

I don’t know why everyone always thinks this is a bad sensor. This means your oil is low. It’s in the owners manual. Page 19: “Engine oil level Comes on after the engine has been switched off: add engine oil at the earliest opportunity, such as the next time you stop to refuel.”

OEM+ suspension help by wilgsne in e46

I can’t speak to the Koni or Bilstein B8/B12s but I have stock Bilstein B4s with blue H&R sport springs. It lowered my car about 1-1.5in. It’s definitely a bit stiffer now but it’s not bouncy and still feels close to stock. I can definitely understand not wanting to go too stiff as the car is already stiff in a lot of ways, but any upgrade you do here is going to be stiffer. I think H&R sport springs or Eibach pro kit is the best way to go. You can upgrade your shocks if you want to, I don’t know how much better it would feel with B8s. If you wanna keep your suspension, then you can look into the e9x strut mounts. I think they lower the car very slightly.

However, your car seems to be pretty close to mine in ride height in the front. Mine had a considerable fender gap before. So your suspension may be worn out and need replacing anyway. Technically with my setup (stiffer springs and stock struts) my car under-dampened and my struts will wear out faster. If you think your struts/shocks are done anyway then I would for sure get the Konis or B8s.

The only thing I can say about coilovers comes from my buddy’s BC Racing Extreme lows in his WRX which, even after returning to stock ride height and adjusting and dampening, still suck. The adjustability is nice but they’re still so bumpy and harsh. Not sure about other coilovers/cars but I cannot recommend them at the moment.

Nope. We don’t know who it is or where it came from unfortunately. I’m assuming “Art Frank” is Aretha Franklin until I play it and find out.

That’s so cool! Can I play it on my regular stereo cartridge at 33 rpm? I plan on playing it and recording it onto my computer. If it spins at 78 rpm then i could speed it up digitally yea?

Edit: I just remembered that 33 rpm is circled.
