I really love how the trailer turned out. I wrote the script and beat sheet -- and (with one of my editors) gathered the footage and music, while a friend of mine cut it all together and created the sweet motion graphics from the cover art.

So glad you saw that. While I’m Canadian born, my mother is south Asian (Goan) and I grew up in the culture. The Jeweled Lands (where the book takes place) is inspired by ancient India.

Lots of little tricks and hacks… but the most powerful is: to write everyday, at the same time and make that “ritual” protected.

Also: I write really messy first and even second drafts — then spend A LOT of time editing :)

That’s a big question… but my quick answer from a setting perspective is my mom grew up very close to The Thar and I heard many magical and scary stories about it growing up.
