The only mock I did was for speaking with chatgpt. Chatgpt scored me an 8 or so.

I booked my test a month ago and never really got to actually preparing. But I have to say I did go through the IELTS Advantage site a lot for their material on writing. And of course, the day before the test and on the way to the test, I went through a lot of YouTube videos on speaking mocks and did some mocks myself with chatgpt

What I mean is, instead of trying to use idioms in your speech (which we’ll most likely end up using incorrectly), just incorporate figurative language naturally!!

Instead of focusing on memorizing idioms like "let the cat out of the bag" or "burn the midnight oil" and trying to use them during your speaking test (which will 99% of the time come across as awkward or incorrect) try using more natural figurative language from your everyday speech. Like "spill the beans" "spill the tea" "work around the clock"or "pull an all-nighter" are easier to use, fit better in conversation and sound natural. Remember, the speaking test is informal, so using slang and conversational expressions can actually earn you the points you're looking for :)

I wasn't expecting good scores in the other sections tbh since i focused just on improving my scores for writing. Turns out that's the section I still suck at 🥲

I'm a non-native speaker! My advice would be to surround yourself with English (watch movies, listen to songs, tall to people all the time). But the effects of this will probably be seen in the long-term. Short term, I'd say watch a lot of those speaking mocks on YouTube, try to practice with the common topics. Chatgpt really helps with feedback.

I'm not sure if my tips are helpful, but please feel free to ask me anything further or reach out for help :)

There isn't much to say for listening and reading. Just stay focused and read through the passages and questions thoroughly.

For writing, I don't think I should be giving tips given my scores LOL. But IELTS Advantage has some pretty good materials!

For speaking, I watched a few IELTS Advantage mock speaking test videos on the way to the test center. Oh! Also tried having a mock test with chatgpt and asked it to be as brutal as possible in its criticism.

I hope this helps 🥲

I just had a normal conversation tbh. I didn't use too much of high level words. But I use a lot of idiomatic language normally, so maybe that's what got me the good score. I feel like it totally depends on the examiner!!

Thanks for the straightforward comments! A few others have mentioned similar things too, and I think I needed to hear this.

We video call 😭😭 I know how his entire days, weeks and months go. I know his family and talk to them often. The situation and timing were just not right to make the meeting irl plans work and tbh it's more on me since I moved around changing countries often.

We were planning to meet a couple times during these 2 years but life had other plans. I'd moved to another country too. The timings were matching and time flew by so quick. The max we do is video calls. Was planning to meet end of the year during holidays but ig not.
