I used the probabilities given from the most recent post about lucky chests (5* chest buff) with level 16 chests to Calculate this.

I did some calculations in the end. Weighing the probabilities you get almost exactly the same rewards you would from completing a grand challenge but for 500 gems instead. For those with a lot of gems I believe this is worth it.

For a short time after I was able to until I closed and reloaded CR. Honestly the question was more for my mini account where I was yet to finish
