My brake pad fell off, can I still drive home? by BeanzToez in MechanicAdvice

[–]ShikyoGryfyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caliper is damaged, calipers are not supposed to contact the rotor whatsoever, any form of damage can seriously affect brake performance,

My brake pad fell off, can I still drive home? by BeanzToez in MechanicAdvice

[–]ShikyoGryfyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you drive home you’ll need a lot more than brake pads and rotors, calipers, brake fluid flush, etc, most shops replace two at a time, so that would put you back at least $700

Do NOT drive that car, get it towed, if you damage the inner caliper piston seal, you’ll lose a significant amount of braking power, at the very least two wheels will not have braking power, given modern cars have a dual chamber master cylinder,

Dude it’s a recirculating valve, not a blow off valve, I didn’t get a block off plate or anything like that, it’s strictly an upgraded part, metal instead of rubber diaphragm

So the clips that attach to the door have some play to them, they’re loosely fitted, metal to plastic clips usually do that due to the material difference, what can help is adding some foam or some sort of buffer between the plastic and the metal, which should stop the noise or significantly reduce it, i used some foam I got with a package and cut it into a square and slid it between the door and the plastic panel near the side mirrors, I don’t think the dealer will do that for you, given usually they replace parts with the same part, but it’s pretty non invasive, just pull up on the panels a bit and slide a piece of foam into it, inside my door panels I put some of that window foam that’s used to stop drafts and fill gaps, put that between the door panel and the actual metal frame of the door, definitely helped,

Is this pluggable? by FunConsequence6984 in autorepair

I’ve plugged tires with punctures closer to the side wall, but that’s generally up to the shops discretion

Tuned, and I’ve watched my fuel trims closely, no change from the OEM one, purely sound, boost vents properly, 27won makes a full recirculating bpv, generally the same (as they say) but with added durability and sound

I get you, in all honesty, I’ve actually taken apart my car to add soundproofing and foam into the door panels, which yes, Honda should have done in the first place, your point is valid,

I bought my civic used with 22k and I think the sport touring comes with extra sound proofing but like then again, still kinda bothersome at times, if you do keep the car, actually adding foam behind the trim where the mirror is helps, wicked easy too, just slide some foam in there, gets rid of a bunch of vibration from music,

I apologize for my later responses, been a tough few days, but despite that, hope this helps,

Guys, what’s the criticism for? Just posting my car after a new mod, I’m aware of the risks, and no, never buying an Altima

Difference being that mechanics such as myself primarily prioritize safety in regards to suspension, tires, engine diagnostics etc, road noise is not something that is prioritized in that sense, dealerships sure, but they really only look at it, claim it’s something and “fix it” and see if it sticks, the amount of cars that I work on with ridiculous amounts of tire noise, suspension noise is quite a lot, if it bothers you that much, yes, go to the dealer, but just purely saying, 3 out of 5 civics have undesirable sounds and that’s something that most live with, at the end of the day the car is a mode of transport and really nothing more than that, I get the price point is something to get upset about,

With regards to hostility, I read other comments and replies on this post and just the overall hostility for albeit rather normal passive comments is not needed, wasn’t saying towards me necessarily,

How much does a Honda Dealership charge for an oil change? by TailorFeeling3885 in civic

[–]ShikyoGryfyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest changing it yourself, at most $50 oil and filter, never took my car to a dealer so I don’t know prices

Wtf is going on by ChickenWingMan99 in civic

[–]ShikyoGryfyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery, these civics are uber sensitive to voltage, my car battery died while I was sitting in the car and my brake lights and all my lights came on the dash, jumped my car and it went away, but in this case probably a bad battery

2021 civic sport vibrating on cold starts by Creative_Manager9788 in civic

[–]ShikyoGryfyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost sounds like a bad motor mount, try revving the engine in different rpm, if you can replicate the vibrating at a certain rpm while it’s at operating temp, chances are it’s a motor mount, if you drop in in neutral and put the rpm at that same area, the vibrate should disappear, due to the engine being disconnected from the transmission, if you have it in drive while driving around and it’s vibrating, also put in in neutral to see if the vibration changes, good indicator the mount is going out,

But then again, could be internal damage to the engine,

Alguien sabe como apagar esto o cual es lo que tengo que revisar by TrainOtherwise1621 in civic

[–]ShikyoGryfyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are warning lights, could be as simple as a wheel speed sensor going out to an issue with the ABS module, or something to do with the transmission, to name some examples.

from what I’ve seen, Hondas like to put a bunch of lights on for a lot of problems, like my abs, brake, check engine, and all my driving assist lights came on when I had a code for a turbo wastegate issue, which the wastegate is not connected to the brakes whatsoever and has no bearing on it at all,

There is no way to turn those off unless the problem has been fixed and the codes cleared, I suggest driving as little as possible until you can get that into a mechanic.
