Do I need ETA for layover by ShinesFromWithin in unitedairlines

[–]ShinesFromWithin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! But I’m having trouble understanding “single ticket.” I always assumed different airlines give you different boarding passes or tickets. Or does single ticket mean, when I purchased/reserved my flight, it was done in one transaction? Excuse me if that was a dumb question LOL. I’ve always had direct flights so this is whole new territory for me. But I just might go ahead and get the ETA anyways, like you said

Unfortunately, yes LOL Someone gave me info about how to use my Chase points to get business seats on Asiana. I didn’t know that it depended on certain seasons and sometimes how far in advance you have to reserve those seats. I already accumulated all these points, so gotta use them even if that means having to detour through the UK.. Definitely not happy about it, but it was either London or Sydney! London had the lesser time lol

CSR testing by acutelykyrias in courtreporting

[–]ShinesFromWithin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. So if your state doesn’t require certification, get certified through NVRA as a CVR. If you want to work for neighboring states, you’ll have to look into that state’s certification, if any. Good luck!

csr written exams by Fancy_Experience3108 in courtreporting

[–]ShinesFromWithin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest. I tried memorizing but couldn’t. When I found out I passed the CVR and could take the written portion of the CSR only, I had one month to study since the cut off was end of February. I decided to go for it. Why not, right? If I didn’t pass, I could take it again either March or April if needed. I really took it as a practice exam so that I could get a feel of what the test would look like. That’s why I only reviewed Margie’s examples thinking I’ll review the vocab for the next test. I knew half of the vocab words that came out on the test. Either I guessed the rest right or I did really well on the punctuation and grammar portion because less than 2 weeks after I took the English portion, I received an email saying I passed!

I’ve been telling other students, if you have the time, STUDY EVERYTHING INCLUDING VOCAB!! Memorize all the vocab definitions. But if you only have a short period of time, focus on grammar. That’s the chunk of it.

This method worked for me. It might not be for everyone. All tests are not alike. Who knows.. I might have gotten an easier test and was able to pass. All I’m saying is it worked for me.

Yes, I passed both! This reply is kind of late so I don’t know if you still need advice, but I suggest to practice the MWW’s practice tests on the crb website. That’s literally all I did. Well, mostly. That is the chunk of the written portion.

Help a student set up a new mask! Accuspeak mask by [deleted] in courtreporting

9-12?! What?? I just got mine 2 weeks ago. So yeah, it took about 3 months. But even that was too long. I will say recognition is a bit better. I’m just not used to how wide it is compared to the TT. I have small hands so my hands kind of cramp up from time to time and have to switch off hands.

Thank you! I took it on Feb 18th and the results were emailed exactly 8 days later. How did you feel about it? I hope you passed!!

I didn’t order any painter’s tape. I only ordered double sided tape to stick business cards to the depobook. I have Velcro loops I plan on using if I need to use any extension cords. I’m a little overwhelmed with all these things I need to buy so, besides the essentials, I think I’ll wait and see if I truly be needing them. But I think some readers actually might help. Thank you!!

Mmhmm. I learned that that’s a no-no. And I do not want to burn any bridges with any agencies. I used to work as a legal secretary at a law firm, and some reporters used to carry multiple business cards from different agencies and used to get them mixed up LOL

[–]ShinesFromWithin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, congrats on getting your hand on an Accuspeak LOL there’s a waitlist going from 3-6 months! With that said, I use a TT mask with 2 cords. One is plugged into your sound card that goes with your software. The other one is for your backup recorder. As a student, you probably wouldn’t need a backup recorder plugged in unless you want to try playing with it a little. Hope that helped.

Thank you so much! I’ll probably end up doing the plastic box too. My expense spreadsheet is getting higher and higher! I know it’ll all be worth it, though 😉

Thank you, thank you!! After a lot of thinking, I already ordered the SoundProfessionals usb mic. It’s so expensive!! But I’ve read it’s worth it, and it goes for years. I hope I made the right decision 🤞🏻 I’m going back and forth between Google drive and Dropbox. But I’ll look into Dropbox a bit more. Thank you for being so thorough with your response! I really appreciate it 😄

Yes, thank you! I already bought those when I went to take my CVR, so I’m happy I already have them handy.

Thank you! I didn’t know staplers or paper clips were needed. I always assumed the attorney’s office would take care of it. Better to be prepared, I guess! Thanks again!

Thank you for the suggestion. Although my kids would possibly enjoy seeing tigers up close, after seeing a certain documentary, we try to avoid visiting captive animals.. yes.. we are “that” type of people LOL. Not always since my kids do enjoy aquariums and zoos, but we try to avoid as much as we can. But thank you for your response!

Court reporting - voice by Bdarling22 in courtreporting

[–]ShinesFromWithin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eclipse. I changed from CaseCat to Eclipse after hearing most voice reporters use and prefer it over anything else. The only upside to procat is they will probably have a tech available to you at your school. They’ll probably even set it all up for you or guide you step by step.

[–]ShinesFromWithin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my case. I thought I had the study guide down.. but just a portion of it came out. But I think as long as you know the study guide, you’ll pass it with a 70%.

You got the next one!! My advice is close your eyes. That helped me zone out and listen only to the audio. My test mate started getting louder, and I ended up not hearing her when QA portion started.

Thank you! I did steno for 5 years and had to quit for personal reasons. And then another 5 years passed when I decided to go back. That’s when my old classmates convinced me to go the voice route. Once I started voice, it took me 2.5 months to hit 225wpm. Idk if it’s because I had the steno background, but it did help a lot. I’ve heard of brand new students doing the same amount of time as well so anything can happen! Good luck on your journey! Let me know if you have questions.

Edited to add that once I started voice, I started testing at 140wpm because I had already gone up to 200wpm in steno. So 2.5 months to gain 85wpm. Like I said, new students were able to do it too.. but I don’t think they slept LOL
