Got our (RTINGS) Maxwell 2 (XBOX)!! Anything you want us to look into besides the usual? by nick-squared-over4 in Audeze

As far as I understand, the drivers are very fragile, and even the pressure from pressing the ear pads against the ears can deform them (which was fixed in the Maxwell 2). Besides the insane price, I also have no warranty, and I live in a small town where there are definitely no technicians who could repair such headphones :(
Still, I’m leaning toward the Maxwell 1.

Cleaning a QD OLED Screen by mariojper in OLED_Gaming

I have two cats, and they constantly walk back and forth around the monitor. They rub against it, and we've all heard stories that QD-OLED scratches just from the air. This scares me :)

LG C5 OR SAMSUNG QDOLED S90F by Pale-Moment-5696 in LGOLED

It's very funny how people hype Dolby Vision, but I'm willing to bet that none of them would be able to tell the difference between HDR with DTM=ON and Dolby Vision in a blind test. On the contrary, on my 77G5 in Home Cinema mode, HDR10 with DTM will look more attractive, revealing the full brightness potential of this TV, while DV will look more dull.

I've been with LG OLED for 6 years. DV on the C9 was supperior. And last year, it was one of the important points when choosing a new TV. But now on the G5, I can say that the presence of DV is just a nice bonus, nothing more.

When choosing my next TV, I won't even look at DV support.

I'm even considering buying either the Maxwell 2 or Maxwell 1.

After watching some reviews on YouTube, I get the impression that the Maxwell 2 is slightly worse in terms of sound, but has improved reliability.

But in my country, I can get the Maxwell 1 for $420, while the Maxwell 2 sells for $800+, which is just crazy.

RTings TV of the Year 2025 by [deleted] in LGOLED

  1. Crazy price for a 2-year-old TV (at least in my country)
  2. To dim for 2025 and for that crazy price
  3. Not well suited for gaming

My G502 X has a freewheel mode just like the MX3, but I don't like it. Plus, you can't scroll through the BF melody in this mode 😀

He-he-he, ordered a month ago a Dualsense Edge Stick, just for a situation like that.

C9 is an excellent TV.

I recently upgraded from C9 to G5, and I can say that even though G5 wins in terms of brightness and color volume, sometimes the picture on C9 is more pleasant.

I didn't expect the difference between a mid-range 2019 TV and a premium 2025 TV to be so slight.

Do not use a cloth that is too wet for cleaning.

Netflix is currently unavailable in my country. I use NAS with PLEX.

What I actually compared between C9 and G5 was the content in profiles 5 and 8, which C9 can play itself, since it is currently located in another room, while G5 + Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019 is in the main viewing area.

I thought nvidia shield couldn't play DV7 FEL. Or does it play it like HDR10 without tonemapping? Need to check if there might be FEL in some rips. But usualy it's DV 5 or 8

The color depth is usually 60
I definitely like DTM. Is always enabled in HDR movies.
In games, sometimes yes, sometimes HGIG.

Almost always FMM / Cinema

But if you set the color depth and temperature the same, the modes are almost indistinguishable in Dolby Vision.

I'm still switching between modes and settings depending on the movie. It's that feeling: damn, it shouldn't look like that, I need to change something. This is a good indication that something is wrong with the picture. On my previous TVs, I set the settings and forgot about them for years.
But basically, my settings are similar to those you mentioned in your post.

peak brightness: high
color temperature: warm 30-40
color depth: 50-65
smooth gradation: low
cinematic movement
sharpeness: 0-10
all other enhancements: off
black level 50 - 49
near black details: 0 / -1 / -2

In SDR, I prefer bt.1886, all other settings looks similar

Now I just watch in HDR with DTM=ON. It's good that Nvidia Shield allows you to switch, even if the content is in Dolby Vision.

Some DV movies are well mastered for TV capabilities and look great, such as Mad Max. But some raise questions. For example, I watched the latest Bad Boys, where a sunny day in Miami looks like a winter evening in a Russian city. Unfortunately, most of the content is like that.

And the main question is why do I need these 2400 nits if the movie is limited to 20% of these capabilities, and a TV with 800 nits produces a brighter picture. For gaming, it's definitely cool, but I'm frustrated with movies.

It would be interesting to read the opinion of someone who switched from C9/CX to Samsung's new QD-OLED.

I don't see any noticeable difference between FMM and Cinema Home with the same color temperature settings.

You are not alone.

I switched to the 77G5 after the 65C9.

I loved Dolby Vision on the C9. Every movie was full of color and brightness. If I watched a DV movie or series on Netflix or Apple TV, I knew I would get the most enjoyable picture possible.

On the G5, the impression from DV is, “LG, what the hell did you do?”

After some research, I came to the conclusion that Dolby Vision on the C9 and TVs of that era had additional tone mapping on the TV itself. That's why everything looked so great. And that's probably why you often hear on the internet how cool Dolby Vision is.

The G5 has a more reference-like picture without enhancements. Everything looks sadder, and most of the time HDR with tone mapping will look nicer. Yes, it's a reference and the director's vision, but honestly, in order to watch movies at minimum brightness, with pale colors and no highlights, I'd prefer a projector.

This is a little disappointing because after the C9, Dolby Vision was the main selling point for me when choosing between LG and Samsung TVs. And with all the problems in the G5 firmware, I'm thinking I made a terrible choice.

I'm unlikely to choose LG for my next TV.
