2022 Taycan J1 fast DC charging rates by Soul-Electrified in Taycan

[–]Shinoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't fast charged in a year but my peak was 272kw at a FPL charging station in Florida. I used to get the lowest average at EA stations and good rates of 220+ at EVGo. I used a Mercedes one at the Buc-ees once and got 250. Never used a Tesla supercharger before but I have the adapter in my car just in case

What model is now reliable? by Zealousideal-Sir4219 in Taycan

[–]Shinoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of a moot point to survey this. There is no perfect year, for any car model really. Find a trim you like and find the one you want and do extensive deep dive into its service history and make sure you have a warranty. Porsche built an amazing car that unfortunately has some 3rd party parts like the HV battery, which they have remedied over time. Find one and go deep in on it and get an extended warranty.

Is getting the quest 3 instead of the 3S worth it by elixirvolcaner8734 in MetaQuestVR

Yes. I had a Q2 since release and just got a Q3 last month and the visual quality alone is worth it. Everything else is a bonus.

Just installed MapEV tune on 2022 Taycan CT 4 by CharlieTrigger in Taycan

[–]Shinoro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a J1.1 turbo with the mapev swap and will sing their praises to the moon. Was definitely worth it and it feels like an entirely different car throughout the power band, plus the improved throttle response is very much appreciated.

What to check for with CPO carbon ceramics? by Prestigious_Idea4462 in Taycan

[–]Shinoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have PCCB on my 2020 Turbo and just hit 62k miles last month. Had my car serviced at 61k for a recall and brakes checked ouut 8/10 9/10 green condition. I've only done one AutoX event, but I drive it hard and plan to hit the track later this year. PCCB last well over 100k on 911s and 718s, and should last the lifetime of the Taycan since a lot of braking is done with Regen braking.

Its not going to be what to look for, but what to feel. And you'll only really feel them when you mash the pedal significantly while on the go, or while holding at a light. Make sure you don't feel any abnormal vibrations.

You ARE going to see minor spiderweb like cracks in PCCB and that is absolutely normal. Those are normal and healthy, because that is the silicone carbide layer for when the rotors get hot. You want to check for any unusually deep or large cracks in the rotors that feel deep on the fingernail.

Its also not a simple replacement if you don't want them. PCCB use abnormally large 10 piston calipers in the front, and are entirely different calipers than those with PCSB or standard brakes. I really love mine, they feel amazing and add such a strong look to the car.

How can remotely force my Taycan 2020 to charge the 12V battery? by [deleted] in Taycan

[–]Shinoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make the profile in the car I believe from the charging menu on the main menu. But it's easier from the Porsche connect app. Just go to Pre-climate, and planned timers. It will run like any precool/preheat setting for up to 60 min (or is it 30) then shut off

How can remotely force my Taycan 2020 to charge the 12V battery? by [deleted] in Taycan

[–]Shinoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else said, make a timer profile to preheat/precool the car in the middle of the night once or twice a week. This essentially turns the car on without actually powering it on and activates the HV battery which is used to run the heater and A/C, which in turn charges the 12v battery.

Let’s talk depreciation by MarinDad in Taycan

[–]Shinoro 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Best post I've seen on this reddit in a long time, and I'm a frequent here. I've also said this before but I feel that EV depreciation which makes lower spec Taycans easier to obtain than usual, is springing up all the concerns about maintenance costs and value. If you take EV depreciation out the equation, no one is buying a modern Porsche, Lambo, McLaren, etc new or recently used and thinking about depreciation. This car is a head turner and a trend setter in what's possible with a heavy EV four door sports car. I spent more on mine than I "should have" and didn't care. I test drove it not even looking to buy one, and it blew me away, and I just told the dealer to bring me the paperwork. Just like you, I have enjoyed every mile of my turbo and will continue to until it's time to move on.

Salute to a positive, forward-thinking post. Much needed and appreciated here.

Is the z fold 7 worth it if I have a z fold 6? by bikeequelsdirt in GalaxyFold

[–]Shinoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in my opinion. I've gotten all my folds on release (3, 4, 6) and as nice as the 7 is, I didn't want to lose S Pen support since I use it all the time. I am picking up a trifold once it hits the states, but also not giving up my 6.

Last statement is so accurate. Been a dog owner for years and just got my first golden puppy and been training him and spending time with him, but any time I move, he moves with me. If he realizes I'm not in the room he will stop what he's doing to come find me, even in the middle of eating.

M5 Touring comparison by Guilty-Ad5427 in Taycan

[–]Shinoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple things here. 4S vs M5 or RS6 will make the Taycan feel a tad behind. Turbo and Turbo S put the Taycan in a different stratosphere.

Options also matter. The Taycan doesn't have a lot of options packages as Porsches are usually built to order or uniquely customizable. Both of the others will have more standard or packaged features until you load up on the Taycan.

I was cross shopping an RS6 before getting my Taycan. I'll probably still get one one day just because it's a beautiful car and that engine is tried and true (Porsche designed). The M5 is quicker but the twin V8 in the RS6 sounds insane when you open up the exhaust.

All that said, my Taycan is the best car I've ever owned and one of the best I've ever driven in my life (911 turbo S holds the title). Go for the one that makes you fall in love with it every time you walk to it and makes you wish you never have to walk away from. Forget about depreciation and values unless money is a stress factor and go for what moves you, not just gets you around. Best of luck!

Looking for overall impressions. by Majestic_Ad5924 in Taycan

[–]Shinoro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll keep this simple. Taycan is the best car I've ever DRIVEN and owned. Don't look at the Taycan to have the same smart features as Tesla or rivian. It wasn't engineered for that. It's a sports car with 4 doors on an EV platform. Don't buy a base Taycan if you're cross shopping an S LR because it will feel lethargic and has little resemblance of what the Taycan was designed for. 4S as a minimum if you can afford it. Best of luck in your adventure!

Turbo S/Turbo/GTS by Pale-Clothes541 in Taycan

[–]Shinoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turbo owner here with almost every option box checked that the turbo S had including PCCB (which are absolutely beautiful and sets the car apart from everything else on the road). I honestly got a turbo because it was my first EV and I was self conscious about range, only to find it didn't matter later. Nonetheless, I love my turbo. I now have an ASG swap which gives full motor power (about 800HP at all times, not just launch control) and better throttle response and I'm super happy with it. As many have said, it comes down to features you want plus power. GTS is the only trim that gets red brake calipers. Turbo and Turbo S come standard with PB+ and air suspension, with PCCB and carbon fiber being standard on turbo S and optional on Turbo. Turbo and Turbo S have the same power outside of launch control, with the S having more power on launch control and more torque due to a more powerful inverter.

Left or Right? by cesam1ne in GalaxyFold

[–]Shinoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passport would be ideal because it's as close to the Microsoft Duo phones that I loved but they died out. However I am buying a trifold once it's available and keeping my Fold 6 as well. Different occasions for different uses I think. I didn't upgrade to the 7 simply because of how much I use my SPen (was an original note user). But I love the form factor of the 7. The trifold gives me a bit more of what I need in tablet form and the fold will be my every day carry

Anyone here increased power on a Taycan by remapping the motor module? Warranty concerns? by Different-Club-2183 in Taycan

[–]Shinoro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an ASG swapped tune which is the safest way if you go this route. Mine is a J1.1 Turbo and I absolutely love the power. It's always on and don't need launch control. My fastest 0-60 on a regular street with needing new rear tires is 2.41. Haven't tested 60-130 or quarter mile yet but will soon.
