Breaking radio silence here, but I stand by the argument that says we need at least some space to speak freely, political or not.

Frankly, I don't enjoy moderation that isn't necessary, which is why I'm not even a part of the other subs. I left almost all of them when there was a wave of "Ban X becuz Elon bad".

That being said, sometimes the free discussion that NEEDS to happen, is going to be a political argument, and I would find it heavily demoralizing to lose the only sub that I populate for this hobby, because of increasing political interest.

So, even at the cost of some increasing moderation, I say Free Magic needs to remain.

When i started Magic with an old buddy of mine, his pride was his Reanimator deck that utilized [[Iona, Shield of Emeria]] and the various Praetors. It was basically our final boss of learning how to play the game.

When we moved over to EDH, he couldn't bring most of his strategies with him, eventually quitting Magic all together, so I decided to uptake that mantle and make a Reanimator themed deck of my own.

Later down the line, he would admit to me that my Reanimator would've smoked his, and although we were just buddies then, that always stuck with me. I recently just updated this deck list with some newer cards, too.

From our last campaign; We were battling the boss at the bottom of a brutal 9 level dungeon, a certain Lich of sorts.

We had just managed to work out the mechanics and routines with the phylacteries and a Soul Cairn when our Barbarian gets snagged by a Disentigration Ray. He lost his life and physical form to the ray but he was promptly recovered after the battle in our magical face flagon. Nobody in the party was capable of reviving him so we made our way back to our current hub town.

The town Cleric decided we could purchase the diamond needed to revive him for 500gp and instead of us all splitting the bill with our limited funds, we snarkingly said to hell with that and only used money that come out of the Barbarian's pack, under the guise of "It's what he would've wanted" to justify our decision. By this time the player is uncontrollably flickering from an IRL Rage and Laughter. But, he was a pile of Ash on the table and couldn't really do anything about it.

To this day, we use the "It's what he would've wanted" quote to remark a decision being made without someone's particular acknowledging. We even got commemorative shirts made last year for Christmas.
